My Citreon Xantia is 13yrs old, cost £575 3yrs ago, never any issues with MOT's. Took it to othe other side of Glouscester on Sun to collect a Milling machine.
The seller gave me cause for concern when he said he moved the mill with a Range Rover & tri axel trailer & thought the Citroen and twin axel trailer were not up to the job.
I didn't show my concern and loaded main body of mill which weighed 1 Ton on trailer, put head slide and drlling head 300 Kg in car, allong with me my lad and friend, and huge amount of tools, cut up scaffold poles for rollers, jacks and wood blocks. I reacon there was 1100Kg on trailer (mill main body and wood blocks) 750Kg in car (people incluuded). Started the engine up and weighted for suspension to self level, and set off ! Wow I was impressed Citroen drove superb even up "Birdlip hill". I think speading weight well helped. Defo best towing car I've owned. p.s still turned 40 to the gallon aswell *happy* *happy*

don't see why you would have needed a tri-axle trailer; plenty of capacity on the smaller units.

as for the mpg, i'd be happy with that unloaded!

One of the most reliable cars I've owned was a Citroen Xsara VTS, in 3 years it had a centre exhaust section, front discs and pads and a central locking motor, and I battered it everywhere.

Thats quite impressive. Birdlip hill is a quite an effort for itself let alone with all that weight.

I've got a 2002 C3 1.4 petrol with absolutely no problems since new. Only need to replace the gearknob now due to wear and tear.

Life is always a matter of opinion and quite frankly, no ones opinion really matters.

Father inlaw has a C5, about 5 years old. It's wank. spends more time in the garage than on the road.

My 106 survived full throtel burnouts, 1000mile trips 110mph clocked on gps in germany, poped head gasket from liner drop cost 70 to sort out, finally after 4 years of full on abuse. Sold it they changed bottom pully and still use it now.

Clio has been amazing minus a small hesatation on part throtel have done 35k in a year and a half. Hesitation down to a faulty coil which i keep meaning to replace

We had one years ago for a while. The car was good the electrics were shite though. Wouldn't go near a modern french diesel nowadays.

I used to run a 2.0l petrol nissan primera for 4 years and my dad bought it nearly new before I started to use it. Excellent car. Massive boot, fairly economical and extremely reliable. Unfortunately had to scrap it off with over 170k on the clock....

Friend of mine bought a vauxhall cavalier for £25, ran it for 18 months problem free until the engine blew, whilst waiting for the AA he organised to buy another that afternoon for £50... He is the king of buying cheap cars in my eyes.

I have to confess that I did have a C5 and it was not great either. However the focus I have now has the same engine as the C5 and that is fine. In fact almost all ford diesels of the 2000s are the peugeot/citroen lumps.

My mate spend £207 on a an old cavlier 1.7td. WE used it for 2 banger rallys and a few of us had as a daily drive for a few years.

Then we killed it:
