Hi,

ive stripped down my 998 gearbox and the dog teeth seem very worn. Ive not driven this engine so dont know if it was grinding, nor do i have one to compare to. Please give me your opinions on whether i should replace the gears or just buy a rebuild kit and give it a go. Also 2nd gear is hard to find, any reason? The syncro hubs have almost the same wear.

The gear casing was damaged from the idler shim (burnt). I used an abrasive pad on my drill. I kept it as even as possible but it already wore at a slight angle. Will be adjusting clearance with new shims. These shims have no lock tabs so are free to spin on the gearbox casing and clutch housing?

Thanks

Can you get a better macro picture? Hard to tell but it doesnt look particularly worn to me

I seriously doubt it!

The teeth have the point worn down and/or have chipping. No missing teeth or any with major damage. How much wear is too much? Ill try and get better photos

If they are chipped, it's junk. You might get away with it on fourth gear.

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

As vegard says, once theyre chipped they have a point that they can crack

I seriously doubt it!
