How much play in the backing ring for the c washer is too much.

I fitted a new c washer today as I lost my old one and it doesn't close up to the mating part on the other ring very well there's quite a bit of rotational play around the crankshaft. Looks like it was a bit worn. Will it affect the operation at all or now it's on is it fine?

Did you buy the C washer from Minisport?

The primary gear clearnace setting is explained in the Haynes manual and is an important part of the reliability of the oil seal of the crankshaft, not just the primary gear seal. Don't half guess it, measure it and fix it, but if you have a Minisport C washer, I suggest you bin it and buy a real one from the likes of Minispares.

No I bought a genuine c washer from Minispares it's the piece the c washer sits against that is worn and part 88g549. It was the original one off my engine just rotates a little until it touches each side of the c washer.
I was gonna just whip the flywheel off again and put a new one on just the be sure but wanted to check just in case it would be ok.

that will be fine. I just found a little confusing how it was described, my bad. But you need to check the clearance on the primary gear before you put it all back together
