Just wonder if anybody has done any work with regards to k1100 cams, ie reprofiling them? Not wanting to be controversial as i see them as a good idea, but from what experience i have of them, the power seems to come on quite late, and wondered if anyone had thought about designing profiles that bring the power band in sooner?

Any thoughts?

there are two profiles in the K1100/1200 heads, 250 odd degrees (LT), and 280 odd degrees (RS)

apart from this SC do some hotter reprofiled ones but that's not what your after.

Using the LT cams and playing with the cam timing should bet you what you want.

Re profiling cams is nothing new. Other than Specialist components regrinds, i've heard individuals who have had this done, its not that hard when you know where to go, but you are restriced to what can fit into the old RS or LT profile. You are also limited on total valve lift since the 16v followers are quite small.

I heard a little birdy say that Specialist components will be doing an intermediate cam with a little more duration than the LT and a little less than the RS but with a whole load more lift, the result being it's less of a rever and produces the goods lower down the revs.

That aside, with the only restraint of the original cam durations, you can pretty much any 'profile' you want. For example, when I ran Normally aspirated, I ran an lt inlet and an rs exhaust set at 106/106. I now run a pair of LT cams set at 115/110 for the turbo. Theory being that with the little overlap, idle will be smooth and won't rev much beyond 7500.

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be...
So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I think bringing the power band lower in the revs kind of defeats the object of a 16v head.*oh well*

The 8v seems to produce similar power but in general the torque is a lot lower down, which is why a lot of people opt for these on a road engine.

Try playing with the cam timing as sprocket says, as that makes a huge difference. I found I was able to run a lot of advance on mine lower down, giving much more response and the feeling that the power was more gradual, and not all at top end. I then fitted a bigger turbo and doubled the boost, which had the opposite effect! Lol
