is the breather from the flywheel housing and rocker cover going to the catch tank or are they just connected to each other? |

Difficult to understand exactly how they are connected from the description. But I'll assume that the three pipes basically link together then go to the catchtank.

As Wil says it does sound like the engine is the problem rather than the breather system.
I seriously doubt it! |

Hmm, sounds odd for a 998, they normally only have one breather on the tappet chest cover going to the carb. The timing cover and transfer case breathers are generally found on large bore engines. Unless the 998 in question isn't standard. On 26th Jan, 2012 Tom Fenton said:

The catchtank I assume has a breather on an it's this that seems to be breathing heavily, right? In which case I'd say the engine is the problem not the breathing system. fooked rings, ringlands, knackered pistons, worn bores. or all of the above. |

The windage tray wont affect anything. Lots of us have a spring on the dipstick to stop it blowing out. Is that your only concern? I seriously doubt it! |

Or try a new rubber 'O' ring on the dipstick so it's a tightish fit.
