is the breather from the flywheel housing and rocker cover going to the catch tank or are they just connected to each other?

Difficult to understand exactly how they are connected from the description. But I'll assume that the three pipes basically link together then go to the catchtank.

The catchtank I assume has a breather on an it's this that seems to be breathing heavily, right?

In which case I'd say the engine is the problem not the breathing system. fooked rings, ringlands, knackered pistons, worn bores. or all of the above.

As Wil says it does sound like the engine is the problem rather than the breather system.

You could try blanking off the rocker cover and connecting the flywheel cover and timing chain cover through the T piece into the carb as per standard

I seriously doubt it!

Hmm, sounds odd for a 998, they normally only have one breather on the tappet chest cover going to the carb. The timing cover and transfer case breathers are generally found on large bore engines. Unless the 998 in question isn't standard.

The windage tray wont affect anything. Lots of us have a spring on the dipstick to stop it blowing out. Is that your only concern?

I seriously doubt it!

Or try a new rubber 'O' ring on the dipstick so it's a tightish fit.
The anodized dipsticks you can buy are good, they have two.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

check the breathers all again!!! and the k&n is it big enough on full power ?, if its burning oil and blowing out of the breathers, you can bet sadley the rings are goose,

if the breathers checks out ok? & its not burning oil my monies on the second ring down on one or two of the pistons is cracked .............. but i may add that more than likley the ring lad has collapsed on the second one down cause by detonation, my monies on number 4 cylinder

hope this helps
