Probably a stupid question but I've got a zeemax bodykit and a fmic
I know the *front subframe is* attached to the front panel along with the inner wings
So it is structural to an extent

But can I cut out the bit that's showing to fit an intercooler flush ish
And possibly weld a supporting beam abit higher up?

It's not the whole patch in blue but about 2/3rds of the central part in lighter blue
And cut lines in it & fold it back on itself?

The tiebars should be mounted to the subframe, not the front panel!

As for cutting out, i'm not sure my thoughts on it

If you were to cut the front panel, I'd want to solid mount the subframe and add strengthening to the mount area on the floor.
Try to look at it the same way as a removable or fibreglass front.

Good idea
I meant subframe lol!
I've got solid rear mounts and top mounts too
How would I got about strengthening it abit more?
Guess I should head over to the 16v forum and see what they do

Thanks for the replys guys :)

Weld some sheet onto the floor on the inside where the mounts bolt to, helps to spread the load and prevent it cracking :)
Obviously make it a bit larger than the surface area of the mounts, something 1.5mm thick should do.

As above, it shouldnt be a problem as many minis have removable fronts without bracebars.

From his second post I understand it is the subframe he wishes to chop about.

Cut out that cross member and the car will become very dangerous. You'll also probibly find that as soon as you cut it out, the two sides will spring togther some what.

o, before you cut it out, weld a brace on.

I've thought about removing that cross member and replacing it with some formed tube. One above and one below (similar sort of shape to a n AC Cobra grille) so to allow an intercooler to fit in the center of it.

What ever you do, don't ever cut it out and not put anything substantial back in

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

No no
I wouldn't chop up the subframe!
Subframe bolts to front panel = structural
Can I cut abit out without seriously affecting the strength?

To an extent so will reinforce the rear mounts and not chop up too much

Sorry for the confusing post haha

Can you not just remove the front section of the subby then weld in a tubular piece that takes up less room? Thats pretty much how I made my subframe. However heed Colins about the springyness, it twated me on the knuckles when I chopped it away.
