Firstly apologies if this has been asked before but just wanting to some advice/advice on running and electric water pump.

Ive got an davies craig electric pump and controller i acquired for another project and im thinking about using it on my track car, not as an aid to cooling but to free up a few hp by ditching the mechanical pump and fan.

Anybody out there used one with a sidemounted radiator and electric fan? I have the pump/fan controller unit so it would ramp up and down automatically and kick the fan in when needed.

I think I read a while back that Paul uses one.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Forget the controller, run the pump flat out and put a switch in the rad for the fan to come on as needed

I seriously doubt it!

I plan on using a Davies Craig setup. They say you should use the controller to prolong the lifespan of the pump

Rubbish, its just to make more money. Dont listen to anything retail chains tell you - listen to the people who know

I seriously doubt it!

I thought it was to control the temperature of the engine

That was my impression, from my experience at work, variable speed pumps dont last any longer than fixed speed. At the pumping stations i work at just helps keep a steady flow so the pumps not banging in and out, which shouldnt be an issue in a car.

The pump just needs to keep the water circulating and the fan regulates the temperature since you dont use a thermostat. Try a controller if you want to but I guarantee you will have it flat out

I seriously doubt it!

So you run it @ 80 l/min. That sound like an avfull lot. Have you tried a little less ? It shouldn´t be nessesary to have that much water pumping to keep you engine cool. "I seriously doubt it" *smiley*

Look at the specs: (I think this is the one)

80l/min is when it is freeflowing, not when it is mounted and has to work...

Dazed and Confused....

Look 'doubter' Im not going to justify myself to you, Im trying to give the benefit of experience of a few of us who run an electric pump. Believe me or dont, I dont give a fuck, have you tried it?

No, Im not gonna steady on. Im sick of coming up with an idea, researching it, building it, making it work then giving someone the benefit of all that and someone else who has never even tried it comes along and refutes it.

One of the reasons I rarely post on here anymore

I seriously doubt it!

Well said Paul. There must be something in the water these days. It pisses me off when people ask for help or option and then question your advise. If you don't like what you hear you don't need to throw it back in someone's face. I have now got to the point were I just tell people to fuckoff or if at work I put the phone down

Whoa! I havent questioned anybodies advise, tbh i cant see the point now running the controller as essentially all it does is gets the engine upto temp quicker.

TBH straight talking is the reason I stay here. It truly is a forum that tells you if something works from experience.

The mini world forums is full of advice that is bull and as a novice its hard to tell whats good and whats not.

I never thought I would build and engine and I doubt without TM I would have tried.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

back on topic:-

paul, what radiator are you using, and do you think it would take 15 minutes of abuse per session for example?

Ive used Minispares Super 2 core and Radtec aluminium with electric pump. Dont bother with aluminium rad, its no lighter once full of coolant and no more efficient. I havent driven it much recently but I used to drive it spiritedly round Milton Keynes for a couple of hours at a time

I seriously doubt it!
