Hey guys,
I was stripping my callipers the other night, and unfortunately at some point, I've got a snapped bleed nipple in each calliper (same one funnily enough)
Now I've had a good using easy outs, and tried drilling it, and I'm getting nowhere fast.
So basically, have you guys got any good ideas for removal, and/or, does any of the northern contingent know of any good little engineering companies that might be better suited to getting these out?

Cheers all

Alex

Tried warming it up before using the easyout?

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

No, I did wonder weather the heat and a can of spray freeze might work. I'm also a bit dubious about these cheap easy outs, they seem to just sit and spin against it rather than biting in.

I stripped the threads in a set of genuine 'S' calipers while prepping for Goodwood.
Didn't piss about, straight down the machine shop and got them to drill and helicoil.

While I am perfectly capable of inserting a helicoil, sometimes it is just easier to hand it to a professional who does it all day.

No pun intended...

my nipples broke off on my 4 pots and were portuding slightly still so i built the nipple up with weld (tig) and the heat from the process made them easy to remove.

Hi Alex (that sounds weird, there's not too many of us to come across your own name *happy* )
Yeah I'm thinking it would be easier to get it to an engineering firm, just need to possibly find a small friendly place. I grew up in Coventry and had loads of contacts for stuff like that, you don't realise how much you miss things like that when you don't know of anywhere.
Also, why helicopter a bleed nipple? Surely tapping a new thread and fitting a bigger nipple is easier, or am I missing something?

Mossy, that's a pretty good idea. However, I don't own a tig, and the threads are 'almost' level with the calliper. :(

I sheared a bleed nipple in my alloy 4 pots cause of the steel on alloy corrosion. Snapped an easy out trying to remove it. Got a machine shop in Belper (Derby) to drill it out.

Put a new one in and it was still a touch loose and dripping even though the threads were good and snapped it again. Managed to get it out and another one in myself and went ever so easy next time round.

mine were sheared on the alloy callipers; ended up getting a machine shop to sort it

They are a pain it seems.
So you managed to get it out without needing to retread it at all?

Sounds like I should just be grateful for having just 1 on each calliper snapped lol.

I didn't need to rethread it but reckon it would benefit from it.

Give these guys a call, only down in Malton and if they dont want to do it, they will know someone who can.

They have done plenty of engine work for me in the past and know their stuff!
