I have read some conflicting info on this subject but can anybody confirm if an A+ CWP pair will fit an A series gearbox (remote change)
Is there a mod that can be done or is it a straight swap?

Thanks

Think I've just found the answer from an old thread.
Looks like its a bearing retaining plate mod for clearance

It depends on the ratio.
Give me the ratio and I'll tell you.

3.1 or 3.2

As the 3.1 and 3.2 share the same pinion, this would not matter.

However, it's rather straightforward to make them fit, you just need to relieve the main bearing retainer.

Or if you are too lazy or unable to do it I believe guess-works sells a modified version for not too much dosh

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

I've fitted both a 3.1 and a 3.2 into pre-A+ gearboxes, and advised a further two swaps over the phone.

You need to relieve the inside of the bearing retainer slightly to allow the pinion to turn. A sanding belt in a Dremel is perfectly adequate, and a few trial fits with the inside covered in marker pen will show any high spots.

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

Just out of curiosity, how much needs to be removed?

I seriously doubt it!

Not a lot.
If you fit the bearing retainer without relieving it, it will bolt up nicely but will not turn - guess how I know...

It really isn't a huge amount for a 3.1 - maybe half a mm to a mm at most (as a total and utter guess).

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

Forgotten more than most ever know

I have 2,95 ratio in my box and it fits with above modification. I machined the retainer in a lathe, a bit fiddly because the retainer may / did come loose and parts flying around in a garage is not a good thing ...
