I get talking to the Engineers that do a lot of the initial testing of these fuels. The name V Power Nitro + has been in use in the US for some time already.

The thing with the Octane, is that the 99 -102 octane rating, while that is not wrong, it's not right at the same time either.

Currently Vpower is sold in the UK as 99 octane. It is 99 +- 0.5 octane at the pump when you fill your car (unlike a certain supermarket). In parts of Continental Europe the high octane Vpower is sold at 100 octane, while in other parts Vpower is 98 octane. Ergo, the octane rating of Vpower Nitro will depend on which part of the world you live in. It is likely that the UK will remain 99 octane while in Germany it may reach the 102 octane perhaps. therefore Vpower Nitro will be sold at 99 - 102 octane in Europe *wink*

I can tell you one thing though for sure, it does what it says on the tin, I have seen the evidence. This may be difficult for some to appreciate as they won't have seen what I have, but I will explain how Shell test these fuels and it may become a little easier for you to appreciate the differnece. V Power is not just a fancy name that increases the price, it actually works!

Shell use all maner of OEM engines to test fuels and run many different tests using highly sophistocated data capture equipment that only multi billion pound companies like Shell can afford. Some tests run 24/7 for upto 3 months or more. One particulalr test uses a run of the mill, modern 4 cylinder petrol engine from one of the big name manufacturers. The fuel rail is split into two, and each of the two parts of the fuel rail is fed a different fuel, one could be anything, such as a cheap supermarket fuel, and the other the development fuel. The engine is run under load in an envirnonmentally controlled cell for the test duration (could be anything up to 3 months or more). Once the test is complete, the cylinder head is removed and the combustion chambers are scraped clean (this includes the piston crown and the back of the valves) and the carbon deposits weighed and measured.

To see an engine after a test described above with the cylinder head freshly pulled, it is instantly obvious what V power does at least in part.

One thing to consider here after you have spent thousands on your new engine, and filled it with the most expensive oil you can, what fuel do you put in it? Cheap shit from the supermarket?

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Dont know if its a placebo effect but i can definately feel the difference when filling up with v power or bp ultimate, both with the diesel and petrol, although im not rich enough to run my diesel on it all the time :(

a friend of mine drives a Diesel and started to use vpower after it hits the german market, so long ago. after some time he calculated if it's worth it. looking at the figures with regular and vpower diesel he found that the engine used a bit less vpower diesel nearly exactly to compensate the higher price. he thought the engine is running smoother so he sticks with vpower.
i even asked my mother to fill her petrol car with Shell 95 octane only and after some time she found that the car uses less fuel, too. same as my old Rover. so it may be not more expensive to use the more expensive fuel in the long run.
and i'm not saying Shell is the only good one, my last Mini liked Aral fuel best

i can say 100% my skyline makes alot more power on V-power confirmed with my laptop it also runs on its knock maps and pulls about 6deg timing when running on supermarket fuel in comparison as i got caught short one day *happy*

The company my dad works for inform them only to use shell vpower fuel if possible, he has a new 525d 4mpg extra on vpower over regular deisel.

But what about the bp ultimate 102? That was a good fuel but I havent seen it in a while.

we have this facility at work its called the nocking shop and is where the lab set the ron for different distributors such as shell tesco ect great too have a look around and these guys know how to build engines they have to change piston rings and bearing before each test so that all variables are the same

Done now needs redoing lol

Shell V power was the fuel I used in the Metro. It was noticeably better that BP Ultimate. . . On Peter Baldwin's Rolling road he commented my engine loved lots of timing advance and was very powerful given the spec.

My choice of performance fuel any day.

the skyline was running on its full advance map and there tuned for jap fuel and is rather aggressive imo
anyway at least as good as v power although lets see how it does in a weeks time ( v power has usually gone a lill duff by this time )
