bleed valve between the inlet manifold and the float bowl

my first test was a bit of crushed brake pipe inside a short length of silicone tube
my second was literally a bleed valve see pic
my current settup is a ball valve fitted under my wiper/lights stalk for quick adjustment the rest is ecu controlled similar to an idle valve

my current settup can also 'add' fuel

EDIT: mine however is an N/A carb yours may be different see my next post *happy*

if you want it switchable ( i think robert uses a solenoid) then this needs to be between the inlet manifold and the float bowl
and if you already have the lean off pipe 'nipple' on the top front of the carb thats already restricted and the bleed valve is not strictly needed

the solenoid would need to go in the normal lean off pipe

Mine has a solenoid in the lean off pipe which stays open until the MJ switches it closed.

It works pretty well but I'd like it leaner. Needs more fiddling.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

drill out the nipple top front on the carb, either make the hole ever so slightly larger or drill it through with about 4mm drill and use a bleed valve
i love it because i can fuel 12afr in the same needle position as 18afr at part throttle

thats the one, is it settup without the lean off pipe connected?

if it is currently blocked off just re plumb it with the valve settup how you suggested and watch the afrs dont go too lean

i finally sorted the lean out brett i ended up halfing the boost and now no lean out and no clutch slip - until i can afford a flywheel for the rts :)

How does it add fuel brett?

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

opposite way it takes fuel *happy*
basically the lean off pipe allows pressure out the float bowl on boost and sucks it out on vacuum (manifold)
now if you control that flow of air either way you can control not only the lean out at part throttle but also the air pressure above the fuel on boost (more pressure more fuel)
obviously this needs to be matched too a needle and i have only been able to manage it using position sensors and pressure sensors, it would have been easier im sure to go full fuel injection *wink*

pressure gauge so i could watch what the float bowl pressure was doing

If doing this you need something adjustable, my first attempt used a solenoid and switch, opening it made it run massivly lean off the gauge and it missfired and stuttered, then changed to a bleed valve which I could have half open and it was spot on.

Cheers Brett. I tried something similar, but by t-ing into the signal line from my pitot tube. Couldnt seem to get enough vacuum at cruise to make a difference. By the way how much vac are you guys seeing at cruise ?

Cheers, If I remember correctly I have just about F-all vac at 4000 rpm, maybe its the small turbo(GT1549) starting to spool already ?

that sounds about right mine does the same but slightly higher up the revs
if i hold 20% throttle up to red line i get alot of boost by 4500rpm
its uncomfortable to maintain any higher road speed as you constantly have to back off and pull it out of boost

Damn, so this mod will probably not work then. Maybe I should have a go at filing a new needle for it, I have to check my graphs again as I seem to remember the first 5 stations being fairly untouched from standard.

lol

I had something like this on the VNT wih a bleed valve, coast along at about 50-60 off boost.... come to a hill and the extra load on the engine pulls it onto boost... straight round to 15psi and the car takes off!
