hi everyone, I have a mini cooper Spi from 1993 and I had a problem that I fixed Changing all capilar hoses hoses between the inlet manifold and the ecu. the first problem was the engine revs were to low and the engine stops at idle, when I change the hoses this problem was fixed but at the same time I get new one, now its realy hard to get the engine started, sometimes it starts at the first try but normaly it won´t start.
if it starts I can drive it normal with no problems, good. the problem is just to start. I hope someone can help me

And I realise today, its happen mostly when the car is not cold and if I push the car way down on a road it will start with no problem

Thank you

I don't know much about Spi minis.
But I'd have a look at VR sensor; is it giving proper signal to ECU.

Also coolant temp sensor can give issues but as you state it runs fine when it does I am not to sure.

Dazed and Confused....

Have had simular problems with my mpi in the past, . It turned out to be the water temp sensor. Saying that spi/mpi are very different systems

yes as above, once your car has warmed up does the water temp guage work in the car? if not it could be that the sensor is faulty therfore the stepper motor doesnt know where to put your throttle position to causing it to not start at cold

Check wiring to the coolant sensor very likely you have dislodged them doing the vacuum pipes, sensor is underneath manifold, when it wont start splash a tiny bit of petrol into the throttle body then put filter housing back on, it will start and once running will run all day, in effect ecu doesnt know temperature and default is warm start at 59 degrees, so starts with no cold enrichment....(choke in old money)
