Hi peeps,
I was looking for some advice on where to position my ren5 turbo intercooler.?
I know it is a widly used intercooler for the mini. I have included a pic below to show where I was going to mount it. Is the position of my intercooler going to be effective enough in the picture?? I have no inner wings as I have a removable front end. If any of you are using this type of intercooler I would very much appreciate a photo of how you have plumed it in and positioned it for maximum poformance

Many thanks turbo nuts :)

:)

King Gaycharger, butt plug dealer, Sheldon Cooper and a BAC but generally a niceish fella if you dont mind a northerner

Rotherham, South Yorkshire

Should work OK, but you would need to duct it to get the best out of it.

It would be better angled so air can actually flow through it ( ie from engine bay to wheel arch. )

And plumbing would be easier with the pipework at the rear

Header tanks look a really weird shape ? Why do they overlap the core so much ?

Hi Steve.
Thanks for your advice.
Not sure why the header tanks overlap? I have never really paid much attention to it. I was giving the intercooler by a friend who didn't need it anymore. Are all alloy ren5 intercoolers like this ?? Should it affect the air flow?
Thanks again :)

Can it not be made to fit behind the grille?

Factory R5 units have plastic end tanks and do not overlap. I really cant see any valid reason for anyone to make a unit with such an overlap. Wont matter a great deal I'm sure, just looks very weird !

Without ducting, it's current location will be next to useless.

You don't have a dizzy, so there is space at the front. although you may be using a front rad.

Now the starter motor is in along with the alternator etc there is not enough room for it to fit at the lower front(grill area). I will be using a kad bonnet so maybe I could locate it just above the front slam panel??? Umm or maybe I need to source a new inter cooler?? I know when turbophil used a ren 5 intercooler he positioned it where the side rad was but I wil be using a side rad,
If I lay the cooler flat under the bonnet and duct the air through bonnet ducts would this work?
Thanks for everyone's replies

Why don't you leave it where it is and fabricate a bracket to fix an electric fan to or next to it? Not sure how well that would work but it's far better than nothing if you're tight for space surely

The R5 intercooler is a difficult one to mount in a roundnose. I ended up using something different after a while so I could place it in a better position.

Where is has it is fine if angled correctly and turned around with the pipes at the rear.

It's how I did mine 19 years ago

I will have another look at this in the weekend. I think I will try angling the cooler. Either under the o/s wing or where it is just above the grill level. I have an air duct (the ones that have the pipe on the end) which I bought from a show a while back. I will look at fitting the duct in the grill area and position the pipe towards the cooler' sound like a plan??
Thanks again

i was looking at fitting one of these but couldn't get it to fit easily ideally u want it down the front. will it not sit above the starter where the dizzy normally sits?
in the end i gave up an got a different one but i had a dizzy at the time.

The Escort RS Turbo Second generation Pace Products intercooler is a nice fit in the inner wing.

I have the Pace Products one and it couldn't be any better fit if I had designed it like that!!
