Swansea boyo!

Hey guys! I just called up my current insurance company to get a quote for when the mini is on the road and was pretty sad to find out it only drops it by £10 a month from what I pay now on my current car. I pay about £1100 a year atm.
I declared all the mods there would be, said it would be garage stored (my current car is just insured on the road outside the house but I'm going to be renting a garage for this *happy*), lowered my millage (it was on 10,000 but I do about 5-7k a year), didn't go crazy on what the mini would be valued at and it still only came to about £1000 a year.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a reasonable insurer? Surely it shouldn't be that much for a pretty standard 998 that's classed as classic? Any help would be great, thanks (:.

Try Adrian Flux and HIC. Also have a search on here, there are plenty of topics on it *smiley*

Oh thanks, sorry I don't know how to do a search through all the threads yet! Can you do them online? I don't like talking to them on the phone :(

Probably best to call them for a modified car.

a lot depends on age and location aswell. i am shafted for insurance as i live in a "dodgy" postcode area. even though its a secluded area.

Yeah, I don't live in the best area either which bumps it up :(. I thought garaging it rather than parking it on the road would bring it down a lot more :(.
It's not very moded either, only the breaks and suspension :/.
I've just heard of a few people I know having more mods and they have paid a lot less (unless they haven't declared them *tongue*)

is the garage at your home address? if not, this may be a reason for the less than favourable reduction.

You've not mentioned the current insurer, your age, location etc in the post so its hard to fully comment, but it looks like a saving of circa 10% which isn't too bad I suppose.

Personally, I've just had a favourable quote from Herts Insurance for mine which I'm likely to take up.

I think the biggest factor is her location, as neither of us would want the mini kept outside her house on the road, she's had her current car broken into, vandalized and had people running over the roof of the car :/

They didn't ask where the garage was. I'm with diamond/admiral atm, 21 with 1 years NCB, living in Swansea. They offered me a classic policy or a normal one, I'm not sure if one was cheaper than the other because I got a bit fed up of chatting to the woman who was a bit of a sieve. But the quote they gave me was for a classic one.

My wife was with Diamond for years but we dropped them last year when her premium rocketed for some reason. I'd try the specialists such as flux, Herts, Lancaster etc

Probably because of womens insurance leveling out with guys :(, mines always been high though for what I currently drive :(.
When I got my renewal it went up £400 so I went on line and a new quote which lowered it by £300 on the year before, just by making a new policy, it's nuts! But diamond/admiral/elephant always used to give me the cheapest quotes by quite a bit. I guess they don't really specialise in classic cars so don't really have the right kind of prices.
Thanks for all the suggestions though guys (:, I'll probably give them all a call Friday afternoon.

Living in Swansea won't help matters, my uni friend lives in Cardiff and putting that or Swansea as his home addess put his insurance up from 600 to 900 on his mx5 compared to Exeter/Bath/Malvern

Yeah, my sisters boyfriend was paying about £200 more for changing his address from Kent to Swansea when he moved here. Sucks!

Sorry for bringing a thread up that's a few days old but thought I'd reply, maybe its of some help to the OP.

I recently took a policy out with Adrian Flux on my pretty extensively modified "67. Every modification declared, 16V motor swap, cage, buckets, wheels, arches, spots, well everything. I am 21 and have a fairly new licence. I was originally quoted £620 online but when I went to take the policy out there was a few issues with the details online so I gave them a call. They managed to get the quote down to a shade over £500 with a few other purks like 3rd party on other insured cars.

I did try Footman James and Graham Sykes but FJ wouldn't insure me due to my age and GS quoted me £900.

Hope you get something sorted.

Woah, that's super cheap for a 21 year old with bazillions of mods! I haven't called any of them yet but they would have to drop it by quite a bit to compensate for my insurance wanting a £90 odd cancellation fee :/
