I've spent ages trying to get an idea of what spec would be best for a road going 998cc balancing power, engine life and what I can actually buy for reasonable money.

So far this is the spec I think would be okay, please give me your opinions, criticisms and improvements:

998cc
GT15 turbo
12G940 head
Fiesta Intercooler
Metro turbo carb
If it is needed I'll also go for a SW5 cam
I'd prefer to stay with the dissy.
I'm hoping to run about 10psi or more if the engine will take it...

I know some of this is a bit vague thats why I'm asking all you more expirienced peops out there.

EDIT
Very sorry, I don;t know why this post is showing up twice. Blame my ISP for slow internet connections. Apologies

I am probably at the same stage as you snowfruit, so dont take this as gospel. I've still got a lot to learn myself.

I would use the 12G295 head it starts with 28.3cc of combustion chamber. The 12G940 is from the large bore engine, will need pockets cut in the block and has only 21.4cc chambers.

The T2 would be better than the GT15. The GT15 is a bit big for a 998.

I think that the big problem will be finding good pistons that will withstand the boost and also have a deep dish.

Although I planned to use the 998 originally, I am now considering going the 1275 route as the parts are more readily available.

Resident Cylinder Head Modifier

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

IMHO
forget the 998 unless your entering into a special class of track event or something ???

T2 cam choice would be a kent 266

and a 1275 motor with all the internall goodies etc

No I'm not trying to run in a special class. The reason I'm sticking with the 998 is because there is nothing wrong with the engine. And unless there were good reason to do so (ie the car doesnt run) my wife would never let me spend the mooney on a new engine but she wouldn;t notice spare parts among all the body parts I'm buying *wink*

Besides I like the idea of a 1l turbo :)

I like the idea of the 998 turbo. For a road engine with a lot of use, it should give reasonable economy but still have great performance when you need it.

However, I dont think that you can produce a reliable engine without significant improvements to the engine bottom end. This is going to mean removing and stripping the engine.

The only way to get that past my MD would be to tell her the gearbox was knacked! Luckily her 35 gearbox is making a terible noise and the exhaust keeps falling off. Turbo is the only solution. I just hope I get a chance to drive it.

Don't know much about the SW5, KC500 or MG metro cam is a good choice. But if the SW5 is similar then fine. Just running the standard 998 cam would work too.

12G940 is 24cc standard so getting down to 8:1 CR shoud be easy with the poscets in the block included.

I like your set up mini1071s, especially if it means not having to use a bulkhead box. Let me know how you get on with matching up the maniflold and turbo.

What sort of money are we looking at for a complete MagaJolt Jr inclding all necessary ancillaries and how involved are they to fit? More importantly what improvements will it offer over a metro turbo dizzy?

What sort of boost could I run while still keeping the car usable for every day use?

Thanks for the help guys.

BTW mini1071s where on MiniSport did you see the 12g295 heads for £95?

Would a doubling of oil prices actually result in a doulbing in pump prices?

I'm not so sure.

Still the mapped ignition is deffo the way to go.
