We used old metro turbo pistons in our van with new rings (rings were £100ish). However for what a new set with rings cost (£300 for a set of cast omega's) I think it a bit of a false economy. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

All the pistons in my various cars are effectively second hand, as soon as you start an engine from new they are then used, but would you worry about pistons in your 1 month old new car? Of course not, so as with anything second hand, assess condition carefully then if they are up to the mark install them.

I have used S/H M/T pistons in all three of my engines and have had no problems so far. |

Des hammills books has a section on assessing pistons.
I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
