I'm hoping to go down the lightweight route with the mini

going to start cutting and removing unwanted weight this weekend

and wanted to know if its worth removing the rear bulkhead and replacing it with an alloy cover to keep scrutineers happy at track days etc and keep the MOT man happy

any advice on the easy bits to remove, ive removed the rear seat base and bins

cheers

Funnily enough I'm working on this at the moment, fully chopped out rear seat and boot floor and replace with steel tube spaceframe and ally panels, going rear coilovers with home hashed beam, not something I wanted to do at this stage but I deemed it less work than trying to sort out the existing mangled panels and it will sort our my race tank mounting as well. Can't promise it will be soon but keep an eye on my build fred *wink*

I remember JF telling me he ruined his car by replacing rear bulkhead with alu

I seriously doubt it!

I can't remeber his username, but a chap on here had a rear seat back made in Alu by M Machine iirc.

Certainly not acceptable for hillclimbs, but track days would be no problem.

I am putting back the front bulkhead.

The rear bulkhead offers some torsional rigidity to the shell, so worth considering when adding strength back.

Only building for drag ,track days and possibly road, mot wise a solid boot floor is needed, track days all they seem bothered about is sticking a microphone up your exhaust, drag they only seem to want your seat and battery to be bolted down, and in all cases the fuel tank closed off from the cabin.bracing the shock tops off the rear of the cage with 1 1/2 tube, to be honest having weighed what came out vs samples of what I'm putting back I will be lucky to save 2/3kg overall but its very important to me to make sure its as rigid as std if not more so.
