Hi all. I have a quick rack laying around wich used to be in my rally car. I removed it because it had to mich play.the long end of the inner bar could move up and down. But now the charger mini is about to land on its feet i was thinking if it is possible to revise a steering rack?

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

I don't think anyone rebuilds their own. Most just buy a re conditioned or new unit. I also don't think there are many using a 'quick' rack either. I doubt there is any difference in the working parts other than the rack ratio, so if you can actually buy the spares for the wear parts, you should be able to re build it no problem. I say this without any experience of these quick racks *happy*

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Yeah tought it would be better buying a new one. But why not a quick rack?

That would be personal prefference I suppose.

However in my opinion, the resulting increase in effort at the wheel using a quick rack, would be a disadvantage.

standard rack is 2.7 turns i believe, quick rack is 2.2, was it a noticeable difference? thinking of replacing mine when it gets to mot time, but cant secide if its worth it for what sounds like a small diffrence ?

i always found it could react faster. especially when doing small roads like here with a lot of turns and sharp bends and handbrake turns. but must say that i was amazed to see it has worn out in 3 years.. that was bit disappointing since its pretty expensive (Belgium it almost cost 1.5 times as much as a new regular one)

Am I right in thinking that the track rod ends are 3/8 unf where they fit to the rack? also 3/8 unf where they fit to the arm?

Thanks simon.

I have started posting on Instagram also my name on there is turbomk1golf

Nothing is impossible it just costs more and takes longer.
