Hello. I have just split the box from my engine and found that the majority of my gears are pitted. The box was bought with 300 miles use from a friend and it is a minisport gearset. Ive since done an extra 6,000 miles. What would have caused this and is it useable? As I want to sell it and replace with a minispares gearset?

http://youtu.be/2egOG-I9XLw

P.S. the video is of first gear. The other gears are the same or a bit worse. 4th is worst?

Thank you, Johnny

Looks to me like it has been ragged!
I was expecting rusty pitting from being stood but that chipping is only really caused from having a hard life

But no-one puts a SC g/box on an engine and goes easy on it!

Thanks for the replies. It's had a beating! Haha. 180 Nanas. And a few track days/drag races.

I don't want to literally throw it away. Is it useable for someone with an na motor?

The Minisport gearset in mine lasted 3000 miles at 170nanas an a further 2000 at around 200 before loosing a tooth off third on the laygear.

Bung it on eBay. It'll sell.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Just jump in question. . Is it necessary to have straight cuts gears with around 140 bananas if tje primary gears are straight?

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

finish date set for project 1... march 2018

When you put it on ebay make sure you put in the heading Turbo/mk1/1275/1380/space ship/works race/kad/med/f1

And you Will make so much cash you could get a swiftune set..

I have started posting on Instagram also my name on there is turbomk1golf

Nothing is impossible it just costs more and takes longer.

Considering that is first gear and you are very unlikely to be putting all 180hp through it, with ~7k miles on it shows the quality

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

That is true, but you would hope it would last a bit longer than it has.

There is no fourth 'gear' as such.

Do you mean the crown gear on first motion shaft that transfers the drive from the input gear onto the lay gear?

Fourth 'gear' simply locks the first motion shaft to the main shaft.
