hello everyone,

would it be advised to replace the 1st and 3rd motion bearings along with the two diff roller bearings (that hold the out-putshafts, cant remember the proper name)

If you mean the big single and double roller bearings, then yes. They take a lot of load.

All bearings are a good idea IMO

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Yep do all of them, also check the layshaft for wear, where the needle roller bearings run on it.

If you've got the pre '84 (I think it is) Haynes manual that's got lots of info on gearbox rebuilds.

The engine builder DVD was quite good, and for remote style box the minimania YouTube, they both give you and idea, but then I didn't think were perfect, I,e the lack of a torque wrench in the minimainia... But at least you can see how they go together etc.

i did mine for the first time and after i did it i thought what the heck was i so worried about?
just take your time and dont let those springs and plungers from the sliders/synchronisers fly across the shop! or you will be looking for hours.. hardest part i found was getting the plungers/springs in place for the lock rings for the main shaft after that its easy as man. just set your clearances correct in the diff and drop gears

whats really confusing me is where 4th gear is etc..

i was going to go for:
mini spares GEAR SET EVOLUTION CLUBMAN A PLUS TYPE

http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/...~Kits.aspx|Back to shop

then
REBUILD KIT 4 SYNC EARLY A+ AND ST S/CUT GEARS LESS DIFF

http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/...~kits.aspx|Back to shop

and then for the diff, now i was originally going to get a quaife LSD but i have heard unless i plan on going on track then a x pin one will do?

any ideas.

4th gear is just the 1st motion shaft locked to the 3rd motion shaft.

it depends how much power you're planning on running? any more than 150 then an lsd will help keep it in a straight line.

okay thanks for that, is the rebuild bearing kit okay?

also a bit of an update from my front, managed to remove the two nuts that hold the gears on by following advise to use 1st, 4th and reverse to lock the gears, worked a treat

You can tap the 3rd motion shaft from the pinion end using a soft drift, and that pushes the 1st motion out. The Bering is not that tight, only a light interference fit. Be careful that the synchro for 1st doesn't slide of its hub though. No big deal if it does, but there is 3 detend bearings in there that will ping out. If your worried just put some cling film over the top of the box to stop anything coming out. *wink*

Once the 1st motion is out you can pull the 3rd motion towards where the 1st motion was, this allows room to drift the 3rd motion bearing out with a soft drift.
