you'll probably get poor running, low boost and less power than a 266

i have used the later type pre engaged starter with pre verto clutch assembly, just get the different ring gear welded on, mini spares do them quite cheap

Forgotten more than most ever know

I did check the timing of my first turbo cam (from VMax Racing). The cam is worn to excess but there were one intake and exhaust lobe that were in pretty good shape. Anyway, the timing figures were so close to MD286 that it surprised me a lot. The cam was excellent in 1380 turbo engine. Avonbar Phase 2 was a disappointment after the VMax cam. The next cam that I will fit will be SW10 from Swiftune. I have already fitted one of those in a mate?s engine but he did not get the engine properly set up last summer (due to chasing women... some priorities). So I cannot tell how it really runs.

do you think that the vmax cam is alot better than the avon/piper phase 2 jukka?

ive got that cam in mine yet but from today the engine is being run in so i wont know what its like for a while, i want to put on the vmax head so i suppose the vmax cam would be the way to go, unless the swiftune proves alot better

Hard to say, at least Avonbar timing figures are milder than VMax cam. Having said that, turbos tend to run better with milder (also special) grinds so if you need nice road manners do not get too excited with the cam.

My first spec engine gave 133 hp with VMAX cam @ 0,5 bar. I then had to replace the camtrain plus the head due to unleaded fuel causing "slight wear" and bought Avonbar Phase 2 cam. (Mr. Hargrieves charged me over ?60 for shipping 2 cams over to Finland. Needless to say we don?t do business anymore...) Anyway, the engine gave the same 133 hp but now with 0,7 bar boost. The heads are both my own doings, first head had 32 mm ex valves and the later 31 mm valves, both offset etc. so they are more or less the same.

My gut feeling is that the VMax cam was better in power whereas Phase 2 may be a bit better low down. Note that the engine is 1380 which has good low end torque to begin with. It is also very tolerant to cam timing and does to mind the "wilder" cam. 1275 may be totally another issue.

As you say 1380s can always take a wilder cam and remain nicer to drive... try a 286 in a 998 for poor driveabliity!!! lol

What we need is some back to back testing!

Jim... hurry up an buy a dyno!
