FOR SALE 'Rosie' 1968 Austin Mini 998cc
No MOT, tax exempt classic
Nearly 89,700 miles.

£3,500

I am reluctantly selling my late father's Austin Mini. In 2007, I was registered as the keeper of the vehicle.

My dad bought the car in 1995 and has been kept dry stored ever since.

He was slowly working on the Mini (in his spare time between working as an HGV mechanic and helping friends with their cars), converting her from hydroelastic suspension to dry. He never got to complete his work so, because of this, I believe the front suspension set up is still hydroelastic (drained though) and the rear is dry.

Due to the car being my father's little hobby, and him passing away suddenly, I dont have a great deal of information about his progress on her. I do know that he had the mini running, but in all honesty I havent attempted to start her since I have been registered as her keeper.

As you can see from the photos, the car is in reasonable condition for the age.

Below is a list of my observations:

Body/paint work:
Most of the body work is in good condition. There is an area of rust on the O/S/R lower panel by the wheel arch.
The front foot well carpet has been removed (is just in the mini ready to be refitted), but I have taken a photo of the footwell to show you that it is in good condition, with no major rust or holes.
The paint work is poor and I know that my Dad was planning on getting the car resprayed once he'd sorted the rest of her.

Engine/gearbox:
As I previously stated, the engine was running before my Dad passed away 6years ago, but I obviously cant guarantee that it does now.
The car was drivable aswell (i.e. Dad drove the car into the garage), so the gearbox/clutch and brakes were all usable.
The mini is push start with a key to turn the ignition on.
The gear stick is the classic 'magic wand' type and is obviously original to the shell/gearbox of that age.

Due to limited space in the garage and time being against me, I couldnt get the mini fully out of the garage to take all-round pics of the her, but I have tried to capture all angles as best I can. In order to get a better view of the front and N/S of the mini, I had to tow her back with my car. When doing this I realised that the brakes were, and still are, seized on the car and will obviously have to be trailered by who ever buys the her.

I am selling the mini because I have car projects of my own to do and need the space. Even though I like mini's and come from a family of enthusiasts, I do not have enough of an interest in order to do this mini justice and get her back on the road. Just because this car was my Dad's doesnt mean to say that I dont know the potential worth of the car or am going to let her go for nothing. I am not in a great hurry to get rid of Rosie and she is not costing me anything to keep her where she is. I want the mini to go to the right person who will give her the love she deserves.

I have tried to be as honest and clear as possible with my basic observations, but obviously a viewing is advised. I work away during the week, but weekends are fine. The mini is based in Frome, Somerset. If you are interested and require more information/pictures or want to organize a viewing, please contact me via e-mail : marsh_eddnah84@hotmail.co.uk
