Hi. I have realised that i have a huge amount of 8, 4 setups laying around that i never use. Now i was wondering. .. instead of buying a full 8, 4 to 7, 5 (12 to 10) conversion set. Would it be possible to just machine tje 8.4 disc down and stick on a 7, 5 inch calliper? Or even use a 8, 4 calliper. If yes. How do ya do it. Or is it just not worth the money?

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

Easier to just buy a 12 to 10 kit than piss about. At best you'll be able to run wellers (only just) with some grinding down of the caliper (not recommended) and with some 1" spacers on the front (also not recommended)

Wel it was eighter for banded steels or for 2peace aluminium wheels. I tought maybe i just buy a 4pot caliper for 7, 5 disc brakes and machine a set of the 8, 4's but if it is so much of a hassle. ..

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

Nope, you can do exactly as above. Most of the alloy 4 pots are designed for machined down 8.4" disks.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

I seem to remember that you could use fiesta calipers on 7,9 discs, but have not tryed this myself

I run fiesta calipers 7.9 solid discs (turned down 8.4) you need to use metro flanges and most 10" wheels fit. and splits easy peasy

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
VEMS + 12 PSI + Liquid Intercooler = Small Bore FUN!

I bought a set of minispares alloy calipers and then just machined down the 8.4 inch solid disk. Jobs a goodun!

I have cooper s calipers that need some revision. Maybe i use these on machined 8, 4s what would be best size? 7, 9 or 7, 5? I might have some others to but nothing fancy all single pot (non 4 pot) but do know for sure i have 9 big 8, 4 callipers. .. just took a look on tje space above the garage.

I've got Nick's old calipers now, they're machined 8.4's and fit under 10's without spacers.
At least they do under the Revo's I have.
The mounting bolts have been re located to bring the caliper closer to the hub and the outer edges are profiled to fit under the rim of the wheel.

Yeah got a loon yesterday late and saw something like that on thz forum here. So went back to the garage and slipped a 8, 4 setup together without bolts so i could move it arround and noticed that if you slip the caliper as far as possible it needs only a few millimetres of machining. . But woul only go in the steel wheels. Not in the momo aluminium wheels. Nice pics by the way. I see why they work on the revos. They have that profile on the inner rim like the steel wheels i have. The momo is just flat inside.

What size of disq are those now or just as big as possible?

Ask Mike what he MOT man said about his ground calipers.

Also did anyone notice the spate of KAD setups on eBay recently that had been ground to fit under 10's.

I wonder if MOT rules have changed recently.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Yes. Hubs re-drilled, callipers ground and disks turned down to 7.5". MOT man didn't like the grinding...`

He put the 8.4's on his road car. The orange mini had 7.9" vented minisport brakes on it. To get his road car tested he had to half inch the setup off the orange one.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Hey fella,
You're correct in that the wheel choice may be a touch limited, mostly by offset more than shape but any space helps ! *happy*

The discs are as big as fit, they actually come up about 7.85" if I remember. Although Nick gave me a set with the calipers that were 7.5" that he'd been using for some time, I have some new discs and thought why not use 'em.

So it sounds like possible but only with some wheels (the car does not need mot anymore since its older than 25 years now) will have a look in to it somewhat further the second i have the time. And have my mate who does the machine work for me over to have a look. Who knows we get it right some way... and if not... well i was not going to do anything with all those callipers and disc's annyway so might as wel experiment. Thanks for the links and advise guys. As usual a great help.

Hi... my mate brought me some fiesta calipers a while ago but had the chanse to look at it today... they are bigger than the original 8, 4 calipers... think they are from a to young
Fiesta.. what year of caliper should i go for (he will swap them over no problem but don't want to make him swap it 10 times over)

It was for the spacing, and centralising the disc within the caliper iirc

Indeed, the metro flanges are for offsetting the disk to outside.

This is my set-up; worked a treat:


Although must admit I am going to replace them with 7.5 set-up.

Dazed and Confused....

I have found the, excellent with the following setup.

Braided front and rear hoses.
Mini fins on the rear
1/2" rwc 1275gt
Ferodo premium pads
Yellow tag mc
Grooved front discs

A32 front tyres that help with the grip IMO

I think they perform great
