It MIGHT fall out I'd say.. I normally use a bearing puller tool.

The oven method definatly works.
Just make sure the casing is clean and not oily or your house will be filled with smoke!

I usually bang the casing on a bit of wood on the floor and it drops out.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

another one is to run rings of weld round the inside of bearing with high amperage and hope that when the weld cools it shrinks the bearing slightly.

Might of been what you meant *smiley*

I had to weld a length of studding into my last one and use a length of tube and few washers and use the the nut to jack the bearing out.

Easy method: Drill two holes through the back so you can puch it out, then fill the holes with a few blobs of epoxy resin (which are easilly removed ready for the next time you're changing it)!

spotted this earlier as another potential solution grabbed from www.miniregister.co.uk

Idler Gear Bearing Removal
This months tip was prompted by Bob in Singapore on the Mini List. I concerns the removal of the outer race of the idler gear bearing from the flywheel housing.

I have a simple tool that can be easily made from a length of 2 x 2 (or 50 x 50 if you prefer). One end is shaped to be a sliding fit in the bearing. See web site (http://www.miniregister.co.uk/images/idlerbearingtool.jpg) for photos.

When the tool is ready, pack the space inside the race with grease, make sure the flywheel housing is well supported behind the bearing, engage the tool in the race and then hit the tool with a big hammer.

The hydraulic pressure will force the race out of the flywheel housing.

To avoid getting a jet of grease in the eye, use a self tapper screw to plug the oil drain hole, but don't forget to remove it afterwards.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

this has always been a pain in the rear for some of us.

i would go with jimsters method & or turbo daves method

your on a sure fire way to removing this then*happy*

me personally i would not trust the epoxi but... instead i would after the bearing removal tap the holes to a reasonable correct size to except two grub screws say m5 or 6.

and stud lock these in using "medium" grade studlock

having said that the wear IMHO has always found to be.....NONE OR negligible on this outer bearing race in the cover.

so measure this up before you leap into action on this outer race in the clutch cover *wink**wink**wink**wink**wink**happy*

Afer having the "professionals" bugger my casing up I tried Turbo Daves method, drill it --wait till wife goes shopping--cook it for 10 mins-- open all windows-- punch it out and Bobs yer mothers brother.. Why didn't I do that in the first place??

Now to the main problem, air freshner will not cut it she will be suspicious. Just take a big dump afterwards or prepare youself the day before with beans on toast and fart as much as you can, she wont think twice about that kind of smell....

the girlfriend was on the second floor so i opened all the windows and doors and she didn't smelled it.

so i can do it again and again etc...

there is nothing wrong with a A-series that a turbo can't fix.

I get my local transmission center to pull the bearings out, much easier, leave it in the morning before work and ick it up in the evening on the way home *tongue*

They have baked beanz but they are not quite right... Though I must say I actually prefer the American "vegitarian beans" now.

Even after 19 years we still eat Marmite, HP sauce and a curry every week, and my first stop in the UK is for a Pork pie..Those kind of things never change!!
