Awright lads?? Has anyone got a mobile number for Ian Hargreaves of AVR CLASSICS. Placed an order on the 31st of last month and still nothing.

Rang and E-mailed but no luck. Not impressed to be honest..
Any help is appreciated.

I just rang and rang and rang plus a few e-mails cos I ordered some stuff about 3 weeks ago and still waiting for the stuff. Eventually got hold of him but it all seems a bit unorganised so I'm not too impressed either. Just put your phone on redial and the odds are the phone may get answered at some point

ordered a part in january, got a reply in march saying can no longer get the parts. managed to get a call back in may saying to check my paypal for refund, which i knew there had been no refund and now no contact from emails and calls.

dont hold your breath :( i just keep ringing and leaving a message.

I thought I'd be getting my stuff from him by now but I haven't so e-mailed him and been ringing again and no reply to either method. Gonna give him a couple more days before I drive there for my parts or my money (gonna cost me a fortune in fuel but this Ian needs to get his act together)

he did call me back once, and i explained what i'd ordered to which he confirmed that he was unable to get them now and hated oweing money. now he wont answer anything.

This is all making me a bit nervous cos I can't afford to just chuck away a 3 figure sum. Didn't pay by credit card either but by Paypal so don't know if I'm guaranteed if he is dodgy. Annoying thing is I used to buy stuff off Avonbar with no problems at all :(

just get paypal to refund for none delivery of goods before time runs out, think you get 30 days, i know i missed out by 1 day but only owed £20 but still going to keep trying.

you should be covered by paypal,
avr would have to prove the parcel has been delivered to keep there money in a dispute
providing you didnt 'gift' it

Thereoukld be perfectly reasonable reason why Ian has not responded ,he may be ill or dead, and then a gain he may not be.

Final phone message left and final e-mail sent before I report to Paypal and move on to Minispeed for what I want (please tell me I can trust Minispeed). Interestingly AVR isn't listed on companies house

Wolfie, do minispares have what you want? They're only in Oldbury, you could go and get what you need straight away.

I would say Im supprised to hear about this wolfie but im not. People are very 50/50 about them which cant be good. Ive had dealings with them before and wont be again. Up to you. Give them a try and give us some feedback :)

I remember when Avonbar and Hargreaves were one of the trusted names. Never good to see things head south like this.

As Dave says, Ian historically has been a "friend" of this site and certainly has offered me plenty of free advice over the phone many years ago before the internet was as big as it is now.
I have sent him a message via Facebook to ask him to get in touch with folk about their parts.

Hasn't given me a call back or answered the phone for me and I haven bought anything yet haha but will persist

Cheers Tom. 1 of the parts I've ordered is an uprated actuator as a lot of friends who have a turbo fetish on various types of cars have told me it's way more effective than a bleed valve plus uprated dashpot spring and a richer needle as a starting point for the fueling. I looked at AVR and Minispeed and thought I'd go to AVR as I used to buy stuff in the old days of Avonbar. Gutted cos they're the last bits I need before dropping the engine in the car. Going to sulk now but thanks for the backup from you lot and sorry to the others who are suffering the same crap

I have recently used burlen direct for needle and dashpot spring, very good price and service.
also many fords used higher rating springs in their actuators, I have used a cossie one to give a larger baseline boost level on mine. widely available on ebay etc if you want to save a few pence. or you could try one of the aftermarket 'collins' type ones, though I cant comment on how they perform.

ian was very helpful and provided great service when I last bought a few things off him a couple of years ago...

Paypal dispute is now open and I've been doing a bit of tinternet trawling (disclaimer to cover me and everyone else here) he has another company called Havro Ltd registered at same address with same phone number which has no trading capital as of last tax returns and according to various company credit websites AVR only has £10 trading capital. I'm not saying this is gospel truth, it's just what I've found through various websites. Hope to god it's not true as none of us will ever see our money :(. Fingers crossed everybody and if he is still trading he needs to get these websites to change there tax return/credit score ratings on him sorted

take everything you read on these tax/trading/director check sites with a sack of salt
