Hiya guys,
I have recently taken my engine out to put straight cut gears in and while the block was out I thought I would stick a feeler gauge up past the crank to check my piston to bore clearance... I am managing to get 0.006" up there! I had the block bored to 1293
The car drives fine tho

If it still runs ok, I'd not worry. When its gets smokey then worry about it.

That's not the correct way to measure Clearence you need to remove the pistons measure them with a mic and measure the bore with a bore mic just jamming a feeler gauge up there is probably doing more harm than good... .006" isn't bad Clearence

Speeding is like masturbating, everyone does it, but not all of us film it and put it on the internet

As above. That is not how to measure piston to bore clearance.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

Well........ the machine shop has given it too much clearance, this is always the case I have found with your below par and average. Gibbon machine shop,

if your using omega cast pistons you need a skirt clearance. Overall. Of 0.002" nice and tight in my book....... no wonder the honing hatchings still there. ........ engine will run ok but it wont be killer engine by any means. ............ my advice is don't go there again. Make enquiries for someone in the know

i agree with benross, i got quite arsy with my machine shop about it, to the point they refused to do any more work without figures in writing so i sorted that and found a much better place these guys know there shit, only wish i could have used these from the start

benross, i noticed you stated for cast omega the skirt clearance, whats your opinion of forged omega skirt clearance?

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

Don't worry I wasn't jamming them up there and I know it's a bodge way of measuring but I was interested in checking with the crank in etc out of interest while I was doing the gearbox.

Yh they are cast omegas.
At the moment im torn between going 1310 at another engineering place or keep as is until blow by and running gets really noticeable.
Swaying more to keeping as is for now as it pulls fine.....

Just out of interest be benross, do you do cylinder boring?
