do you want to run fuel injection, or just ignition mapping, or both?

yeah i could do with a numpty's guide.

I understand how it works and all that i think, just need to know exactly whats needed as far as fitting the ignition side of things is concerned.
I know it needs a trigger wheel on the crank and karls explained to me how all that bit works.
its just what else is needed and needs to be modified.

We only uses our megasquirt for ignition and until somebody actually gets it working well on the a-series 5 port head we won't be injecting. Unless we get a 7 port head that is. We went fot the megasquirt not the megajolt because I saw it is more tested and more developed than the megajolt. Also it does leave you with the injection option. There are various different ignition options to choose from. We chose the EDIS for reliability and ease of setup.

Firstly here are a few very useful links.

This is the main place to find the information. It has links to all you will need.

http://www.msefi.com/

Also this is the main megasquirt page.

http://www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html

I would advise that you have a read around the subject a bit the megamanual is very useful, but full of

the injection info. The ignition information is more difficult to find. This is a good place to start;

http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/index.html.

We are using the Extra code to give us a 12x12 map and a few other nice features like shift lights. The software version changes a lot at the moment, but if you use the latest stable version then you should be fine.

Bits you will need.
1. The megasquirt partial kit (http://www.megasquirt.info/bom.htm)
2. I have a list of all the other components that can be ordered from Farnell
(http://www.twin-turbo.co.uk/MegaSquirt/Farnel_parts.xls) This is my list, others are available from

people on the forum. Or you can use the digikey order form. Make sure you order from the right country though.
(http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/home/homepage.jsp) You will end up with spare resistors as the minimum order

is 50.
3. A box will be needed, maplin is great for boxes.
4. All the scrapyard bits, EDIS, 36-1 wheel, wheel pickup and coil pack are redily available.
Nice pictures of what is needed http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/ed...hatyouneed.html
5. Wire and bits and bobs.

The other thing is mounting the timing wheel. We have just turned down a crank pully and fitted the

wheel. Then mounted the sensor the best we could (http://www.twin-turbo.co.uk/photo/Wheel1.JPG)

I am not sure what boost you use, but the standard sensor only goes to 21.5psi. After this boost I guess

the timing won't change anyway, but a 30psi sensor can be fitted I have never used one so I'm not entirley sure how to fit one, although it is probably not a major problem.

That is about all you need to get it working. I am looking at getting some temperature sensors to

measure the air inlet temp and water temp. This can be useful, but we also have software that runs on a

Palm Vx that can data log, so the more inputs the better. We also have a lambda sensor input into the

megasquirt that is useful for tuning and data logging.

Finally I am planning or ordering a few boards later in the year so if anybody is interested I should be able to order some extra ones. If you want me to build one for you that can be done too. I'm not trying to make any money, just cover any costs. If you want to see the megasquirt in action come and see me or Wil at avon we will have it on our N/A minis and can give you a quick demo.

err, y like wot ben said like.

Mines almost ready to roll now, just need my bloody head and turbo back from the machine shop. Fingers crossed i got a good enough map.

and heres a pic of my crank sensor/wheel. I opted for the KAD kit to save any machining work on the pulley, plus its fully adjustable as you can move the wheel AND the sensor.

like ben, i'm using the squirt only for ignition only at the mo. I would like to go to injection too at some point.

I do like those KAD wheel and sensors I can see the TT2 getting one of those if the budget allows.

The problem with the machined pullies is that the sensor has to be mounted in an exact position. evey bracket for a sensor I have made so far has been different so I have had to be able to move the wheel to the correct position.

Could be a very neat install if a sensor and bracket can be supplied to match.....

Have to agree with you there - but it doesn't really matter surely - you just get it something like right and then adjust the 'missing tooth TDC offset' in the software to suit?

You are right this would normally be fine. A trim angle can be added into the software. Unfortunately the way that the EDIS works it is best to have it set correctly. If your not using EDIS it won't matter so much.

Also in the version of software I am using the trim angle can only be positive, I need to check the latest release to see if this has been fixed.
