Hi,

finally got the 998 turbo running. lasted all of 2 days, then suddenly lost power and really struggled to move above like 2000-2500rpm, sounded like a tractor when it did get there.

Turned it off and it really didnt want to restart. had to give it loads of throttle to get it going. I had an issue with it running before and the tee piece carb trick made it run alot better.

im using megajolt if that makes a difference, I have a spark at the plugs.

I have checked over all the pipes round the carb and round the turbo and all seem free from any spilts.

pretty hard to explain the issue, I did alot of searches and couldnt find any thing. Just confused me how one second its fine the next its rubbish.

hopefully some one can help.

Thanks

compression test.

has the manifold/manifolds come loose.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Sounds like the exhaust has fallen off at the elbow.

fast replies as usual so thanks

will do a compression test tonight.

exhaust still seemed to be solid but was getting dark when checking last night so will clarify that one.

trigger wheel was still tight, but will check timing tonight aswell

due to it running fine before, it cant be the order can it? on my coilpack it is number 1 to 4, im assuming these just go straight to the same spark plug so 1 to 1 is this correct

Coil pack could have failed (unlikely but possible)

As it's MS and a coil pack, your leads will either be right or wrong.

but 1-and-4 or 2-and-3 can be swapped with no ill effects.

Didnt manage to check compression last night. just checked now theses are the results

no. 4 20psi
no. 3 20psi
no. 2 130psi
no. 1 130psi

so from those results the head gasket has gone between 3 & 4 is that correct?

What you need to think about is why it went.

Too much advance
Too much boost
To little fuel

So got the Head gasket all changed at the weekend.

But hit another problem,

when it gets up to temperature it kicks out white smoke, but only when im pulling up to lights or going to low revs in first and second, (so off boost). I saw this on another thread that white means water, but im not losing any and i think it smells of oil.

compression is same accross all 4 if that makes a diference

I did change the head aswell when I put the new gasket on, (but it did smoke a little before the head gasket was changed)

Any ideas?

thanks in advance

White smoke (or very very light blue ) can also be oil straight into the exhaust how's the turbo?
Smokey turbos usually clean up when your on the power too

Turbo seemed in really good condition no play or anything. No smoke when driving on boost. What's the best way to check if it this, would the seal go both sides. I can't see any oil in the inlet side of the turbo.

Just had the rocker cover off and there is some white stuff in there, would this be any thing to do with the white smoke?

and what causes the white stuff?

had a search but couldnt find any thing

thanks

If you didn't change the oil when you did the head gasket, the white smokes the water burning off thats in the oil.
The mayo in the rocker cover seems to confirm this.
