having an oil fed turbo has got me thinking (and paranoid) about oil temps!

So i'm fitting an oil temp gauge and would like to know the best place to fit!

ive got a tee piece from the block where the pressure sensor usually is
thats going to the turbo and the second to the pressure sensor
(blanked off at the moment as its a female connection same as the pressure gauge >.<*wink*

DO I;
- use the tee piece for the temp sensor? (what size? link below? :S)
- Sandwich plate on the oil filter
- one of those modified sump bolt senders
- tap into the oil cooler lines

ordering a few bits from ebay tomorrow morning so yeah decisions difficult haha!

Cheers guys

I've been using one of the minispares sump plug variants which was fine, although needed to be modified for my SW gauge. I plan to tap into the speedo housing as others have done on here as part of my gearbox rebuild. That way I can go back to using a magnetic sump plug to pick up any debris.

My oil temp sensor taps into oil pick up pipe at back of gearbox. Seems fine.

Mines in the filter housing.

I'd think that the reading would vary massively depending where the sensor is mounted. Mine will be hotter than the sump for instance.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Mine came on the block so no chance it being that easy!
May buy a new t piece but dont want to mess up the turbo oil feed as I don't know what thread that is either >.<

Wonder what a decent search would be as the 4 way sounds ideal haha

The link for the adapter i used is below. It shares the sump plug thread size, so 5/8 UNC. I had to grind it down a little to get a decent seal on the sealing face. I plan to put this on the edge of the speedo housing, as if inserted from the front of the vehicle, where there is a flat face. I'll post a pic when it's done later this week hopefully.

Here is mine. Used a nut on the back face because the speedo housing is only 4mm thick. Also some silicone sealant in the gap and thread lock and a big spanner! Hopefully will do the trick.

Just what I was thinking!

You'd be better off machining some of the hex off so the threaded section pokes through further, and make sure the nut sits flatter on the inner surface so you get a true measure of when the nut is tight. As it is now, with that nut not sitting flat and only on by a couple of threads, relying on locktite could end it tears.*oh well*

In an ideal world, welding a lug on would be the best bet, but the way you have would be fine if you have more thread poking through and a nyloc nut or wired nut.

The nut is flat, it's the chamfered edges causing an illusion. Points noted though. Perhaps I will disassemble and try again.

I've stuck an 1/8 BSP tap through that area in the past and had no issues with the sensor sealing or coming out.

Oil cooler lines. Then you can make sure your cooler is worthwhile also!

Second attempt. Shortened the nut and wire locked. Thanks for the advice guys.
