Hi

I stripped down my turbo engine about 3 years ago and then lost my way and left it in bits, i did mark the pistons but didnt mark wich way round they went. they are standard pistons and have a A stamped on the crown that points either to the chain end or the flywheel end, i have tried to find out wich way they go but i was unable to, hopefully somebody will know on here so i can crackon before i loose my way again *smiley*

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

either way you cant get them wrong, as the rods dont line up with the crank

Thanks Benross, if anybody has any tech data about the direction the A points that would be very helpful as I can't find anything.

If the pistons haven't been off the rods, then you will be working from them.

I'm pretty sure the A stamp was only a batch quality mark and not an installation orientation mark

Yep not a problem when the pistons are symmetrical but could be if they are slipper pistons. However I do believe the A or B is usually read from the 'front' of the engine which would be the timing gear end if that helps.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

If you marked the pistons, and put them in in order, they will only go in one way. You cannot get it wrong

Rob is sort of right with the 'A'. It is simply there to identify the piston to bore clearance settings as they are built at the factory. You'll also find the 'A' stamped into the deck of a standard block. There are also letters stamped into the flange of the block near the center main bearing to identify the clearances for the main bearings. It just identifies which selective parts at factory assembly should be used to achive the desired clearances. It means absolutely fuck all after that and not worth bothering your arse about *wink*

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be...
So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...
