i have had my car on the road with the current engine for a little while and am still having some niggling problems.

once or twice the car has leaned out before coming onto boost - i have eased off the power, the car then corrects itself.

when running fine its great, afrs where they should be, around 11-12 on full boost.

went out for a spin the other night and it leaned out again, and would cut out due to fuel starvation, off boost. i didn't let it see any boost.

this time it didn't correct itself, i had to run it home with the choke out.

i run an mpi tank, the fpr has been fine and run about 2k miles (over 1000 on my old engine).

the intermittent nature of the problem, i plan to strip the carb down, give it a good clean etc. i currently use a standard turbo dashpot spring, i have a 'green' one to go in there. it seems like something is 'sticking' in the carb.

i will also check all the fuel lines etc

if this doesn't cure the issue i will be looking at the fuel tank wiring

just wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue in the past? or if anyone has any other ideas? cheers, dan

not sure how different the pick up is on an mpi tank but on my regular tank it was the shitty little bit of gauze on the end of it that was full of crap and causing me issues before.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

As Nick says, also possible FPR intermittent fault have a look at that

cheers for the input - I have been working through some of the smaller issues I have with the car over the last few weeks.

I changed my carb needle as it turned out to be bent a few weeks ago. I thought that would solve things but on a test drive today not good -

afr around 14 on boost and load - only held it there for a small amount of time.

the afr used to be around 11-12 on full boost/load.

where the needle had bent there was scuffing on the float. hence I thought this would have solved the problem.

the ambient showed 33 degrees earlier today. could the high amb temps be lowering the afr by that much (from 11-12 to 14?)

jut wondered what peoples thoughts were on this.

if this isn't likely to be the issue I wil look at whipping the tank out and checking the fpr

what do I look for with regards to a faulty fpr?

cheers, dan

also to add it doesn't feel as lean as it did a few weeks ago, or it does not cut out now. just leans out to 14 ish on load/boost

cheers, dan

so I went for a spin this evening to take a look at things now the roads are quiet and its not as warm. got 2 roads away and it cut out completely. wound bump as it was rolling. had a little look and the crank sensor had unplugged itself! probably on the crater sized pot holes around here. anyway, plugged it in, it runs fine now, afr where it should be etc. was wondering if a poor connection there was the fault. it would be nice if it is! thinking that a weak signal giving a weak spark, not igniting the fuel causing it to run weak intermittently.

so hope that's that sorted - seems too easy to me though, will see how it goes!

cheers, dan
