Hi I've just bought a 1380 turbo. It is said to have a med bottom end with a turbo head. It's running a su hif 44 carb. The car was originally setup for n/a then had a T2 garrett turbo bolted on! Any advice for setting the carb like up jetting etc? It was bogging down a bit in 4th but I think the mechanical fuel pump has packed up now. It also has an electronic in line pump in the boot. She is def v quick but I think a proper rolling road setup is needed. Any advice greatly appreciated.

You need to ascertain whether it is a turbo carb or has been modified for turbo use. Do you have a fuel pressure regulator in line?

The mechanical pump is not suitable for use with a turbo, you need a high pressure electric unit and regulator.

Some photos of your setup will help us help you.

And welcome to TM

more info on your install would help - photos!

a mechanical fuel pump will not provide the flow you need. What pump is in the boot?

oh, and welcome!

More importantly, was it built with turbocharging in mind? If not you could do some serious damage to the engine strapping a turbo to it, having that mechanical fuel pump on there is making me weary of it. It normally has the oil drain routed there.A measurement of the compression ratio would be wise I think so you can set yourself a safe boost limit.

Hi thanks for the replies! I'm not really sure how the engine was built I plan to check the compression when I get a chance. All I know is there is an electric fuel pump in the boot also a mechanical pump on the engine. Can I bypass the mechanical pump then? Ill try and get some part numbers and post some pics ASAP. Anyone live near burton on Trent? I don't mind travelling to get knowledgeable advice!
