It isn't smoking on idle really. And not for a little while on the drive. Seems fine for a while. Then starts smoking. I'm not sure if it coincides with turning up the boost as I have done that both times and it does smoke. But until I drive out without adjusting the boost I won't know.
I started with about 4psi and got to 8psi.

The smoke seems to die off when accelerating and a big puff when letting off the throttle.

The mixture seems to rocket up to 10:1 and stay there. Even when coming to an idle hault.

See the videos to understand.

Valve stem oil seals. All is sort of okay when is cold then gets progressively worse after a little while ergo warm oil getting past stem oil seals.

Now this is where you tell us it's a new build and I look a Plumb once more. *smiley*

lost any water / oil?

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

It is a brand new build with a brand new Benross engine and head. Lost a bit of oil. There was some in the tail pipe after last nights run and you can see it splattered over the boot.

Turbo.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

sounds more serious than valve stem / seals?

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

if its an old turbo unknown!!
it will be that, i can assure you.

first reaction is to panic .......but dont! do a compression test to determin if maybe ? damage has bee done to the piston ring lands first

It's not new. Who on earth can afford a brand new gt17 lol. It was good condition. I did change the exhaust housing cause the original was cracked. Could I have missed something here?

I only say good condition from lack of play and the changed housing everything seemed pretty clean and all.

the oil return to the engine MUST NOT BE RESTRICTED in anyway it must be free flowing, draining .......... if it is it needs sorting and the damage to the oil seal will have been done

So has anyone ever changed these seals is it an easy job? Also is it possible to get the turbo off in the engine bay?

So I took the turbo off it felt oily in the inlet and looked black and wet in the exhaust housing. These are the best pics I could get.

So we still think its turbo oil seals?

I have been quite by midland turbos in Nottingham for a quick rebuild they could do tomorrow in a day so could hopefully have it back quickly.

Any oil upstream in the ports of the head? If not then it's almost certainly the turbo.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

that much wet oil in the turbo housing almost must be turbo seals, if that was coming from the engine you would feel / hear something wrong and almost certainly be down a cylinder

Nothing in the pipework or inlet ports. The inlet ports are a little greasy but clean. The oil in the exhaust was running and black.

on the first & second to the last pic you can see oil in the turbine "inside" where the oil seal sits, thats the give away, andy give us a pic of the ar exhaust housing inlet from the manifold

ask the guy at the turbo rebuild shop to give you the prognosis of the problem/problems with the seal & bearing, shaft etc ............ andy
