Nr a shithole (Wolverhampton)

anyone ever thought about fittin LPG. Not interested in whether it's gonna save me money and do more mpg, I've been told it's perfect for tuned turbo engines because it makes the engine run cooler so less chance of pinking and burns more efficiently so a bit more power. Any thoughts?

i've had two lpg cars and both scared the crap out of me

one was a 4.4 v8 range rover, which would backfire occasionally and scare anyone inside or outside the car

also a pressurised gas tank in the back of a mini?
imagine being in anysort of impact with that!

yes they are built to withstand impacts and punctures etc. but when they explode
they EXPLODE!

insurance would be difficult unless you get a LPGA certified installer to provide a certificate

all of the above was through my experience so something to think about haha

undercrown oil jets, dry decks, oil coolers, uprated rads etc. will help keep the temps down

Or water injection.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

The perfect fuel for a turbo is Diesel. Det proof boost.

Note entirely true, it's just called something else on a diesel

But,

absolutely, just look at Le Mans over the last few years and mainstream manufacturers and the emmision levels they can achieve as well as performance.

Plus they dont exactly grow on tree's.

I reckon a std 998 bottom end should hold up okay ish, its the head thats the tricky bit.

Joe, I think it's the diesel bit that's harder than the head.

Common rail injection (with a VNT turbo) if you want performance and the only person on the forum to understand diesel injection is JK and he doesn't vist much more.

Well I did mean basic old school diesel, timed pump ect.

I might have related this story before, but my grandad converted a motorbike to deisel during the rationing, lasted quite a while until the crank broke.

Well Z Cars have started down the derv route.

however the last car I saw mapped at Zcars visited our local RR (Vtec plastic body) day and it was a bit of a pig.

The owner went back after the day and the map was all over the place.
A few hours on the rollers and it was very good on and off the vtec cam..

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
VEMS + 12 PSI + Liquid Intercooler = Small Bore FUN!

LPG is fine on modern cars, everyone has a horror story of backfires etc on generally old range rovers, these were single point LPG systems basically wafting LPG into the inlet tract, and when you backed off it didnt shut off fast enough and so LPG hung about in the inlet tract and occasionally could ignite via hot wire air flow sensors. Modern LPG systems are sequential injection with gas injectors firing into the inlet manifold as near to the port as possible so those issues are gone, the amount of gas injected is governed by a gas ecu which effectively takes the petrol injector pulse and multiplies it up for the amount needed of LPG (LPG has volumetrically less energy and burns slower but has a higher RON rating) I have installed it on Scoobies and it worked great. On a mini with a carb wouldnt bother, even SPI or TPI not worth the effort, big V6 or V8 with injectors per cylinder, perfect....
