How do you tell if your smoky engine is due to worn rings or turbo? I have changed the engine but used the same turbo which is a reconditioned one and have the same smoky issue Patina=old and knackered and won't clean up |

hi steve, first do a compression test to eliminate that part of it, its been known many times to fit a goosed turbo on a good engine,"usually" if the turbos goosed its when you say pull up to a junction and the engines ticking over for 30+ or so seconds and you pull away hit the boost and it smokes like a world war 2 destroyer ship, sighns the seals are fooked especially if it A T3 Edited by BENROSS on 15th Jul, 2013.

Exactly the same issues? If like me you keep on chucking in thirty year old turbo motors one after the other the odds are the majority will be oil burners for one reason or other. Don't forget to check your valve stem oil seals and valve guides. Own the day
