OK so after a day out at Avon and deep thought on the drive home, I really need a straight cut gear kit to increase the reliability of the transmission (nothing no one didn't already know there). I knew this already and had considered the Swifty dog box along with a bigger turbo *happy*

I still fully intend to get the car running on the helical transmission I built for the car, after family matters start to ease off hopefully by the end of the year. At that point I will be in a position to upgrade the transmission ready for the 2014 season start.

As and when things have sorted themselves out I will be in the position to do what I had originaly intended when I started down this route(life throws its twists and turns in to make sure we know where our priorities lie) as such, I have been thinking about going balls out on a track car instead of the road car. After today talking with a select few, the hour and a hlaf drive home had me thinking about the other car I've not yet started on. Yes, I have a second Mini still full of rot in the usual places (doesn't everyone? *hehe!* )

The white Mini that everyone knows is near completion (has been since begining april) as a full on heavy weight road car with the GT1752 turbo will stay as is with the GT1752 and 180 to 200hp tops, but I still need to put a straight cut transmission in this to be able to drive it with out fear of breakage.

As I see it now after the long drive home, the swifty box is a bit much (in the monetary sense) for the white road car, and my idea of a cross discipline non competative (as in competition) track car for my other car would make better use of a Swifty box (that is another story yet to come).

The question........ Swiftune and MED dog boxes aside, what options are there for gear kits and what should I expect from them at ~200hp/ 200lbft?

I've already had a quick look around, so this is more of a confirmation on what I' m already thinking, peoples opinions on what they have used and how it has served them.

Thanks

Sprox :)

PS the first to suggest Minisport will be removed from the cream cake list!

I think its got to be the minispares Evo kit really hasnt it?

they last at 200hp, I dont think the minispares "abbingdon" kit with the new 1st warrents the extra money over the evo kit unless you have to run it (remote box).

I'd do what robert has, and run it with MPI drops,

I used the Mini Spares set for many years and sold it as a very good box even after flat shifting it up the tracks

I seriously doubt it!

What is the difference between Mpi and regular A+ drops?

I'd use the ST kit from Minispares, solely because of the number of bearings in the layshaft. When that is said, the Swifty Dog kit uses only two....*surprised*

MPI ones are "meant" to be made of better material, Calver stated this in an article once, and certainly they do look to be better.

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

My jack knight syncro kit has always been lucky despite my best attempts at getting things wrong a few times.

The only time is showed signs of wear was when using jims triple grey clutch and a set of hoosiers.
However that did enough damage to require replacement of my final drive and flywheel too. Thankfully ive also never had an issue getting hold of spare parts from jack knight either...

What are we thinking about the MED Race gear kit? As its the same sort of cash as the MS st kit?

Also what sort of Ratios are lads running on the drops? Has anyone got the roller type?

Simon.

I have started posting on Instagram also my name on there is turbomk1golf

Nothing is impossible it just costs more and takes longer.
