Anybody got any clever ideas for fitting one to a fibreglass clubman bonnet that doesn't involve a leather strap or anything that will cause it to need painting again?

Bit concerned that my bonnet may end up meeting my windscreen at speed....

couple of karabina's with a short length of rope/string/wire between them, just long enough for you to be able to pop the bonnet and get your hand inside to unclip one of them?

That might work, could put a loop into the box bit that the catch screws onto.

How about fitting some torsion springs to the hinge pins?

It's definitely worth doing, I had the bonnet pop open on my Honda the other day on the Autobahn. Luckily the latch caught it but I've never clenched so hard in all my life.

If I had one. John stole the bonnet from my car and his old one doesn't have the catch...

I bought a ready to fit one from arc angels. And me being slightly younger and dumber bunged it on.

All it had was hinges moulded into the rear and the spring at the front. Low and behold on the motorway it gave way! Luckily it was early in the morning, so i ripped it off and carried on.

hmmm, might look for a cheap bonnet.

Mine is ABS and the quality looks decent. I guess I could put pins in it, but that would be gay.

Bond one one with epoxy gleu. Drill holes trough the metal foot for more contact.

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

finish date set for project 1... march 2018

I reckon I'm going to make the mount from fibreglass and use the standard one.

So I've strapped on my bodging hat and had a go...

Not saying my fibreglassing is any good and that it won't snap straight off at the first bump, but it has satisfied my desire to make a mess of a freshly painted bonnet *happy*

There are a couple of air pockets in the f/g. Luckily I put about 2639876 layers on...

Nice that was the reason I put a leather strap on this time :)

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
