My T3 isn't boosting after rebuilding the engine, it was fine before, it makes a high ptiched noise, I have recorded a video which is uploading. The actualtor and hoses seem ok. Everything is how it was before. Sorry to keep posting threads but it's an emergancy, as I'm off to the ring in 2 days. Also my carb doesn't seem to have a mixture screw just a hole, where should the screw be on a turbo hif44?

Also the noise is very high ptiched, the boost gauge isn't moving, so there's no boost and it feels like a n/a car

I can't do that, I'm going even if I have to go in my skoda :( I've plumbed the boost gauge and dump valve with fresh pipe and looks like it was boosting after all. There is still the wining the noise though, I got a horrible feeling it's a bearing :(

Nothing is impossible it just costs more and takes longer.

The engine was taken out and rebuilt, back in. In the space of 3 weeks, it had been stood for a bit before engine rebuild but it was running fine. Video wil be posted in a sec

I'm gutted, spent about 4k + the original purchase price on it trying to get everything ready in time for the trip, been working on it for around 30 hours straight to get it ready in time for the mot today which I couldn't take it as it was running even worse. I'm at breaking point now :(

have you checked everything over? are all of the pipes connected? can you take the air filter off spin the compressor wheel with your hand?

I've checked everything twice, it's boosting, I think the pipe to the boost gauge was blocked, but it's still whining, I'm hoping it's a small air leak somewhere.
A another big issue is even when the engine is warm, it will not idle or run without the choke pulled out and I can't find anywhere on the internet a diagram for the turbo hif44, also the mixture screw seems to be non existant

I can't quite get to the compressor but I'm sure that's turning

I had this at Avon 2 years ago, it turned out to be the gasket between the plenem and carb was making a high pitched sound. it was Tom that worked it out.

cheers all, I've just took it for another spin and I agree, it sounds like it's got a very small leak. I leave Tuesday so, MOT tomorrow morning, rolling road, hopefully we can find where the leak is when it's on the rollers. Just need to find the mixture screw if it's got one!

yes I drove mine all the way to Avon and everyone was thinking my Turbo was F##ked but with a lot of pissing about we found it.. Just nip all you hose clips up and have a good look at all your gaskets around the carb.

You have loads of time. I diddnt have an engine in the car less than 24 hours before the drive to the ring. Nor had I ever used/fitted megajolt before. But I managed it! I was a couple of hours late.

In this situation. Do not get inpatient. Make smart desicions. If you suspect something is wrong do not take it. If you break down on the ring. Your fucked.

Just double check everything. Oil/water fuel/ spare parts etc etc. you May Find the cause.

Cheers, not had chance to have a look due to mot but it's when it's above 0.2 bar so theres only a few places it could be. Mot failed ppm 2020, 1200 to pass. Co2 was 0.19%!

It appears to be the inlet/exhaust manifold gasket, I've only just changed it aswell! which requires taking the head off.

Is there a good solid gasket that's big enough for large ports and lasts more than 5 miles?

I think it's the only time I'll be great-full for having for having a group a gasket as I would of used 3 gaskets by now!

King Gaycharger, butt plug dealer, Sheldon Cooper and a BAC but generally a niceish fella if you dont mind a northerner

Get the injection inlet gasket. Why on earth do you need to take the head off to do the inlet gasket???

just take the studs out if your having problems with moving the turbo. or take engine steady top mount off and get something to push the engine forward.

Because the bulkhead box for the turbo, isn't really a bulkhead box, it looks like someone had taken a big hammer and made just enough room for the turbo to fit. So the turbo is actually touching the bulkhead, the prev owners bodges has cost me the trip. Most have now been undone.
I changed the gasket the second time by taking the carb off, undoing the engine steadies and taking the studs out but it wasn't much quicker as the studs were a bitch to get in and out because the threads on the head are fecked and you have to fit the studs with the exhaust manifold in place. I had some brand new minispares studs, so I used stud extractor to get them out. Put the minispares ones in and they weren't long enough for the flanges and the washers. Managed to get it back on and tight but too little too late. Gutted
