Should the pinion on the rack move in and out when you go from lock to lock ?

Ive got about 3-4mm of in and out and its coming out of the rack body at a slight angle. Om i right in thinking you can alter the pre load on it

Ditch the rack rick, its goosed and not worth messing about with, their cheap as chips from minispares new!

Mr austin has said its ok. For some reason now its been in bits its not going in and out but still notchy.
Ive got a good gen one coming down tomorrow so will see what thats like
