Hi. Got round testing my 998 today (metro engine) i got dom pressure issues. ..
1=10, 2 kgf/cm2
2=10, 3
3=11
4=10, 5

Slight variations. .. what do you thinck. Its a bit smokey but i think thats because one of the valve intake seals (litle rubber thingies) is ripped. Didn't get round on taking of the head to replace it.

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

there withing 0.8 of each other, did you re-do the test with oil in the bores?

i have run much worse with no issues ( ish - breathers were well sorted though )

nope wil drive it warm tomorow and try it with a spoon of oil in there. was a bit worried about the rings that they wore worn (because of the smoke) breathers are yust one and its free air (with filter on there)

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...

If the oil improves the compression then that points towards rings, as oil will help seal the rings but nothing else.

If they oil doesn't change anything then it's probably not the rings.

My HG went the other day between a water way and no. 3 on my 998, compressions were all about 11bar, but no.3 was at about 10. But the steam coming out when I took the plug out gave the game away!

When does it tend to smoke the most? Valve stems tend to smoke after letting off, then accelerating again.

Mostly when just started up and when warm if i stop at the lights and then give it a go again it blows a puf off blue dark smoke (oil and maybe the engine running twat rich) it does burn oil but how much isnt that easy to say because of that shit dipstick holle that seems to big for anny dipstick. So even holding the thing down with a spring makes it leak. Must say that the head is modded by me a 2years ago and since then often reved to 7000... (6000 now days because it sounds like the valve springs cant follow anny longer... serious ratling noise when it gets there)

Smoking at lights and as you set off is classic valve guides in my experience.

Mm valve guides. So head needs a rebuild. Never replaced guides before but first time for everything. .. twat... hmmm will need to look that one up... well it will have to do for at least 2months have no spare 998 head (with big valves) or its a 1275 head... but dont see me pocketing the block without scooping it out...
