Gents,

on getting the engine running and messing with the carb for a looooong time. on removal of the top of the carb i noticed the needle carrier is not flush with the base of the piston.

This picture of a carb sits flush

i dont have my haynes to hand and was hoping someone would know on here so i could get it built back up and fitted tonight.
it currently sits about 5-6mm proud of the base.
im pretty sure it should be flush or it would disrupt the air flow across the jet.

my question is, should it be flush?

Thanks

Loosen the needle screw and push it further in.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

I have done this john, but i am not sure of its original position. if it was proud for a reason or simple build error from previous owner.

Push the needle in with a straight edge so it is flush. The only reason for it to be sitting proud would be if it came loose or was done on purpose to make the profile slightly weaker

All sorted, I have a lot more adjustment on the mixture screw now its flush, previously it was almost maxed out in the rich position.

The engine is now running sweet.
