Sorry guys, not Turbo but mini related question.

My '93 Rio's been off the road for a couple of years and I want to get it back out. It had about 1/3rd tank of fuel which I topped up with 2 green fuel cans (a gallon each?) of fresh fuel.

The car's starting but it's running like an absolute dog, it will hardly pull away. I can't remember what I was experimenting with when it was laid up but it was a runner OK.

Is it likely to be the fuel, if so is there anything you can add to it to revive it?

If not any advice as to what to do with > half a tank of stale petrol (both our cars are diesel)?

Thanks for any pointers,

Nial.

Chuck some octane booster in, should be good enough to perk it up enough to run. Then top up with fresh fuel as often as poss.

My car is always the same after sitting for a long time. Generally a good does of carb cleaner helps no end.

For a strip and rebuild, in the tank or squirted in the cab intake?

Thanks for the feedback guys, £5 donated to the server fund in return!

I just take the dashpot off and give that a good clean and then give the jet, throat and butterfly a good clean.

If I feel in the mood i will strip the float bowl to and clean that out.

Also worth gibing the electrics a once over. The HT leads can corrode a bit on the plugs, just taking them of and cleaning them can help. If you are still using a dizzy clean the cap and rotor arm.

Arrrggghhhhh.

It was running like an absolute dog, although it started easily enough, so I've just pulled the carb off and stripped it down. I'd rebuilt it not long before it was off the road and it looked spotless inside.

I put it back on and as the fuelling looked OK was giving the electrics a check, wiggled the
plug leads to check they were seated then realised the lead off the distributor next to #1 was
connected beside it.

#1 #2 #4 #3

Fixed it and it's zipping about like it should. Just a wee bit of sill welding and hopefully it'll be
through the MOT in a week or so!
