i was in a similar position and there is a place in chesterfield derbyshire that will liner the block for i think £30 a bore.

at least you know you will have a mint bore and bang on size.

i had a few quotes for lining my block from £250 - 400. when these guys said £30 a bore i nearly fainted.

it was foxwood boring.

http://www.foxwooddiesel.com/

i called them up and was in a massive rush, they said if i got it to them in the morning, i could pick it back up the next day. I forget what the std bore size is, but when i asked for that size, the guy was like "thats tiny, no problem when do you want it doing for".

a friend came through on the same day with a different engine so i didnt do it in the end.

that was last september, i cant see it going up much though.

Good luck

That's cheap!

Would be worth giving them the pistons to make sure it's all good

Hi neildanks - i have seen a number of posts in various sections- you sound like you are on a mission to get this project sorted BUT

it looks like you have already let haste cause delay by buying pistons without knowing bore etc and now you are looking for a solution to that issue. If i may suggest, it could pay you to slow down and put on paper what sort of purpose , idea you have for this beast , and then match it with what you have already got stored away and then of course your budget, time line and own skill level ( how much you can do yourself)

If you post all those things on a build thread - i am sure you will get very knowledgeable folk able to assist you formulating a reliable and good build. - you will get lots of opinions but you will also get the chance to pm some very experienced builders in this regard. Just dont want to see you chasing your tail

The price was my only concern, It seemed a bit too cheap to machine, fit and home the liners. Unless they had some old stock or something.

As far as buying pistons they were acquired after advice that turbo or forged pistons where required, as far as engine builds go I am quite knowledgeable and this is my seventh mini project in 6 years.

I have just completed a full Honda vtec conversion including wiring and subframe build suspension etc . So I am quite wise wise to projects and planning, I have an end goal and a budget set I know what mods I am doing but I am naïve as far as turbos go but I am learning daily and understanding the principles.

As far as haste I am in no major rush to complete my project as I am in need of completion until april next year.

The reason I am asking questions is so I don't go the wrong way, I gather all information i am fedback and decide my best course of action, I am sorry if the way I do this seems wrong but I find it easier to take in the knowledge this way. I am 48 years old and find it more difficult to learn now than what I did when I was younger.

I don't mean to write this sounding un-appreciative but only to explain to people my position.

I'm getting my crank worked by rob, and I'm also thinking of using a mini spares 4 bolt cast centre main and having it line bored at the same time. With machining 90% of the time is usually spent setting up, the rest machining, so having more than one thing done at a time will usually be cheaper.

He's a nice honest bloke, and his work is spot on.

I had this done last week at classic and modern. Plus cam bearings and block resurfacing and a couple of other bits was around 400
