So the rules as I understand them are as follows, if you are welding a cage in it should have a spreader plate on the inside of the car. If it is being bolted in, it needs a plate each side.

My old safety device multi point cage came with internal spreader plates to be welded on Avon 2010 class c 3rd

Yes, as far as im aware you weld the plates inside then bolt the cage to them.

There is an advantage to fitting the outer plate, which is that it gives you a handy place to jack the car up without damaging anything.
