right, had a facet red-top fuel pump
puts out 9psi and idled and ran fine up to 5psi of boost

wacked up the boost to 10psi
replaced the pump with a "metro turbo fuel pump" putting out 43psi
and its over fueling massively and doesnt idle (havent taken it onto boost for obvious reasons lol)

changed over the fuel regulator to one i knew that worked, unscrewed the regulator screw almost all the way out and its still chucking it out, it will stall on idle
then run for 3 mins without turning on the fuel pump

fiddled about with the mixture screw to lean it off and raise the idle abit but no luck
took the spark plugs off and they are black and smell strongly of petrol

Do i go back to the other fuel pump and enjoy boost at 5psi?
is the new OE replacement pump too powerful?
Is it the atmos/air pressure?

is there an order of things i can do to set it up?
dont have a fuel pressure gauge yet either

rargh *angry*

Thought you screwed in to lower fuel pressure?

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

pipes in the right ports, diaphragm works fine/holds pressure by sucking/blowing
return pipe is clear and free of blockages

ordering a pressure gauge tomo
may check the carb

float valve okay? try taking the dashpot off and turning the pump on to see if the valve is leaking. I'm not sure if it would run at all if it was, but could be you issue

valve not leaking :(
can anyone confirm what direction i screw the fuel regulator mixture to make it leaner?

and is 40psi fuel pressure too much?

You don't make it leaner by adjusting the fuel pressure.

You need a fuel pressure gauge.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

surely it lowers the fuel pressure, therefore leans off?

i've leaned off the mixture at idle until it barely ticks over on the carb but its still rich?

Sod it I'll wait for a fuel pressure gauge :)

as above you dont adjust the reg to adjust mixture,

the float valve in the bottom of the SU regulates how much fuel is in the carb, much the same as a toilet cistern,

thats all fine at atmospheric, but soon as you stick boost up the std 3 psi wont beable to push fuel into the float chamber, the reg maintains the fuel pressure at 3-4psi more than boost so it can and the "cistern will fill the float chamber up and then shut of at the top as normal.
