Great weekend at MITP, good to see a couple of you guys too.
This is not the first time I have noticed this little issue but its doing my head in now.
After a 160 mile motorway run no stop, when you change gear or rev the engine it holds its revs instead of dropping.
Makes you sound like you can drive when changing gear, as before this only seems to happen after a long motorway drive, what your thoughts ?

What the mind can conceive the mini can achieve
MITP 2012 17.01 seconds 1/4 mile against "The Don"
MITP 2013 16.83 seconds 1/4 mile

Throttle cable sticking?

Carb freezing causing throttle to stick?

Was a a love sunny drive home, throttle cable is free.

Running 45 weber if that makes any differance

But yeah, check all the throttle linkage is moving freely when the engine is hot under the bonnet, make sure nothing is catching when hot. Give everything a good dose of wd40 and see if the problem disappears. If not is it maybe fuel leaking past a float bowl seal when warm? (not sure how fuel delivery works on them)

It doesn't really matter if it was a nice sunny day, at a constant high speed you can still get carb icing which could cause the sticking

Turbo This..

is the manifold a water heated type also connected up?

no water heated manifold, going to order a service kit for the weber but may try a spray around it first with carb cleaner and see if there is any air leaks.

its seems to do it until the engine has cooled down before it fixes its self once it starts.

Worn throttle/spindle bushes? Or as said air leak? Do u have a nice strong return spring?

Speeding is like masturbating, everyone does it, but not all of us film it and put it on the internet

Still has both springs on to close throttle, think I'll shorten them a little and check throttle spindle since I need to take carb off anyway.

Odd thing to check but sometimes if your gas heats up it revs high, so check where your fuel line is in corralation to your muffler and the ehaust manifold. It helped me out tons.

could be something daft like hot oil = less resistance, then if the revs slightly higher + more ignition timing on that part of the map will = alot more revs

to be sure hook your laptop up and work out what timing is at idle then get it hot enough to idle high and make a note again,
on the mini i used idle advance ( separate little map) to control the idle rpm

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

Carb icing is my bet. Next time it goes it leap out and check the throttle cable, I bet it has gone baggy as ice is holding the butterflies off.
