So I've gleaned what I can off the forums and think I have a plan, but as usual i need your help. As I'm tuning the mini for track day performance, I'm thinking it might be a plan to put in a proper breather system rather than atmospheric venting. Also, my transfer case breather appears to have developed a bad leak around the gasket since my rebuild, and I'm wondering if this is exacerbated by the straight cut drops I have just put in throwing oil directly at the breather. Either that or perhaps it is blocked? I don't think so though, as there was some oil on the underside of the inter cooler hosing that passes over the breather. Thoughts?

So I plan to run 13mm silicone hose from the timing breather, pick up using a brass t joint from the rocker cover (again with a brass connection), a second t off the transfer breather, and then to a mocal 1l oil catch tank, either on the bulkhead or in the driver side wing. Does this sound reasonable? I'm also thinking if the transfer breather is blocked, or just because I'm using the oil tank, is it worth chopping the breather right down? I notice a few others have done this. Any tips? Any COTS options?

I hope all this makes sense. If not, I'll sketch a pic and post it up. :)

If your going to run a catch tank then in my mind you won't need the strainer/filter portion of the standard breather so what you have planned sounds fine.

This is my setup not a track car so not sure what if anything would need changing, the only thing not on the pic is the timing case breather it is taken to the other end of the rocker cover, just a pipe from top of the timing case. Alan

I suggest that 13mm is the absolute minimum size for breathers, although it is not easy to manage bigger ones for all outlets

Here's a picture of my final implementation. Pretty pleased with it. shortened the standard breather on the flywheel casing to fit under my intercooler (not fitted in this picture)

The inside diameter of the Mocal catch tank connectors is the same, so I'm not sure larger hoses would have been hugely beneficial in this particular setup. Not much room to fit a larger breather to the crankcase side either.
