Hi im quite new to the site and have been reading through as much as i can (before the information pours out of my ears) and have decided to turbo my next project, a mk1 scamp.

I know red rat has done a magnificent mk2 build which i can only aspire to but i don't know of any other current mk1 turbo projects and it might be a different proposition fitting things under the neat slanted bonnet.

The chassis is going to be re-built from the ground up over the winter but im already thinking forwards in terms of engine specification and the parts i will need next year.
Iwant to use a 998cc engine for the build purely because i already have a 1380 mk2 scamp which i want to keep (sort of) sensible.
The specification im thinking of thus far is:

998 a+ block bored +20 thou to accept various piston dishes etc
centre strap main.
straight cut drops to a good re-done gearbox.
turbo hif 44
mappable dizzy for ignition.
sensible cam sw5 etc.
intercooler to suit have, my pick of landrover items.
head - i have a couple of 12g295s in standard trim that can be adjusted to suit comp ratio's
or drop a 12g940 on it worked over.

in terms of the turbo this where i could really use some guidance ,
In terms of availability i can get hold of t2's and t25's most easily in two different configurations.
(over manifold and under, mainly a bearing housing orientation difference)

but are these going to be too much mass etc for the little thou to wind up?
i see most of the 998's are going for gt15/17 turbo's very nice if you can find them as i say but will the older design units im on about do the job fairly well or is it going to drive like a small scale metty turbo....laglaglag..power...change?

Any thoughts would be most appreciated. regards, Alan
