Been on here for a while in the background and thought I should get a bit more involved now so here is my current project. Its a 1968 mk2 cooper which I'm hoping to turbo eventually. Its rough and its my first restoration so a big learning curve! Some pictures for you...











Been working on it for a few months now, so far its had the front roof corners repaired, gutter repairs, a new windscreen pillar and now I'm working on the back, done the boot hinge panel and the corners. Got half of the full floor painted in epoxy mastic at the weekend...

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
VEMS + 12 PSI + Liquid Intercooler = Small Bore FUN!

That looks like a project that we have used to here in Finland. Looks that you have it supported properly, thats good. Just new sheet metal and it´s done.
Will take some time to finish thats sure.

My opinion on mk2 cooper is restoration, not modification. Mk2 was manufactured so short time they are becoming more rare.

Thanks for the comments. The reason why I have chose to modify it is I don't have many of the original parts anyway, and I'm not after a show queen, I'm just going to use and have some fun with it.

A small update, got this repair welded in last night. Will tackle the bottom of the rear bulkhead next I think.

Well at least you'll know it's solid when it's done.

Doing a great job, with it being a rare mk2 cooper would it not be better to restore it to its original specification?i would imagine it will be worth more.

Don't cut a silly bulk head box and the body stay original ish then wont affect the value too much :) as its only an engine

Yeah you have got it spot on mate :), any modification I make I can unbolt and put back to original if I ever want to do that.

Nice to see a car being restored properly. Can't see a problem with you modifying it, most stuff is easy enough to put back later on.

you've certainly got your work cut out with this one.

As for restoration/ modification etc, do what you want to do with it. You've obviously already considered everything being reversible anyway and there are too many standard show queens out there already.

If your worried what people do to a genuine cooper, i can gladly post picks of my mk1 austin S, has a vizard style dash, tubbed arches (and did had horrific steel wheel arch extenstions), massive bulkhead box etc, was used as a rally car in the 80's, bit beyond returning to standard so i'm using it as a track car

Wouldn't worry about modifying it either
Make a fun little car, if you go down the original route it costs £1000's and as you would have sourced everything it's not original anyway!

Christ that's a lot of work! I always think bollocks to value, if you build a car that you enjoy it's worth every penny spent to yourself. Why build a car with the intention of selling it, never got that.

Sounds like your all on the same level of thinking as me then. I see it as I may as well build it to how I want and get as much use out of it rather than being original and stuck in a garage just to look at. Not too worried about the value either as I don't want to sell it!. Should be more updates tomorrow and over the weekend.

Got some more done on saturday and tonight, rear bulkhead repairs before the boot floor can go in.

Saturday got the shit cut out and a new piece made up and welded in





Did the end tonight and will start the other side tomorrow hopefully

Cheers for comments, I have read through mattys build quite a few times now. It's been my main reference for some of the jobs and has helped me plan how to tackle this one. Certainly makes it easier seeing someone else's work first.
