Nice attention to detail. Those are the little bits that make a good car into a great car. Was nice to see Matty doing the same on his mk1 too

I seriously doubt it!

Got it fully welded tonight, very pleased with how it came out thought there might be a lot of distortion.

That looks great. Have a look for some rolock disks. I use various grades to clean up the weld after going over it with a flap disk on the grinder. You can get them virtually invisible with next to no filler. Rick had to look at pictures of my car to see where I'd let some sections in when he painted it.

Cheers lads. I will get some of them ordered looks like they are just what I'm after, thanks for that. Do you use the pistol grip air tool with them? I have a die grinder but it might be a bit awkward.

I use a battery drill. They don't need to go very fast. I just work my way down from course grit pads to scourer type pads. Comes up a treat.

Get yourself a cheap angle die grinder to use with them, you can pick one up for about £30.

Lol, very true Once it had been dipped it was hard to see old from new.

Looks like your making good progress and a good job.

This is awsome mate, gives me inspiration to do another shell and replace whole panels. I did a lot of fabrication making repair sections on mine and with hindsight I should have bought more panels.

Isn't it heart breaking welding panels after you've just painted them?!

I'm glad I went for whole panels, wasn't going to at first but I knew I would regret it. It is annoying mate, seems like it was a waste of time painting it in the first place.

Finished welding the drivers side at the weekend, still need to linish it fully

Took it back off the spit again so I can get inside to finish welding the floor and arches, and ready for the front
bulkhead repairs. Finally got rid of the horrible bracing too

Very inspiring I must say. I got my Mk2 Cooper in the garage Sunday and I'm eager to make a start and this thread (and increasingly others it seems) with everything done properly is very motivating.

Keep up the good work and I look forward to your updates.

Finished spot welding the heel board to the boot floor on Saturday. Waiting for my angle die grinder to arrive before I can finish cleaning to welds at the rear so I started on the front bulkhead. There is heavy pitting on most of it so would need a lot of different patches making for it to be good again. I don't think I could make a good job of it so I'm going to replace the whole thing with another one that I have. Cutting it down to just the part I need...

Still needs a bit more work and then sand blasting, don't know if I will do it myself or pay someone else to do it,
I hate sand blasting!

Brave but worth doing... Plenty of prep and measuring and it'll be fine *smiley*

Good luck and keep us updated!
